Depleted Oxygen levels in REFUGIUM?

First I would like to start by saying hello and I hope that I am posting this question in the correct forum.

I have a basic 90 gallon RR tank with a Precison Marine Refugium located below.

I have had this setup running in this New Aquarium for about 10+ months. I have kept a TURBO SNAIL and a "GENERIC" large hermit in the refugium since the beginning. I noticed that the CHAETO and CAULERPA that I had simply was not growing with the little Coral Life that I bought for it. Reading through REEFCENTRAL I came across www.melevsreef.com where he showed the P38 Fluoroscent Reflector Flood light bulb. I have since purchased and install this about 1 month ago. The handful of Macro Algae that I had in their has since multiplied by atleast 10 times its size. I check on all my inhabitants about every other day, but especially on the HERMIT in the refugium because my girlfriends mother gave him to us. Well I checked this weekend and both the HERMIT and TURBO SNAIL were I assume dead because only the empty shells remain. So is it possible that the OXYGEN level is nil in the refugium because of some kind of reaction of the macroalgae? Now I know plants USE Carbon Dioxide and give off OXYGEN, but I am just wondering is it possible that something else could have happend to suddenly kill everything in the refugium? Everything in the MAIN tank is alive and running at 100%. Any ideas on this strange happening?

very well could have been that the hermit ate the snail. also do you have any empty shells in the fuge for the hermit to change into as he grow? if not then he might have left his shell to find anoter and died

jsut my .02

I didn't have any other shells for the Hermit. So the theory that he may have eaten the snail and then crawled out and died does seem very probable. I guess it happend to be a coincidence with the new fast growing macroalgae. Thanks for info guys. Sorry to have bothered with something stupid like that.
