Derasa finally

Ok guys I finally got my first clam, its a derasa about 4 inches. Any advise on theseguys, its in a110g mix reef about 3yrs old. I have two eflux wavemaker n 300watt maxspect razor. I placed it on a flatrock about six inches from sandbed, is this ok should it be on the sand? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you...

I believe the Derasa are mostly found on top of the substrate. They lose their Byssus gland fairly early, and are not known to burrow. Mine is on the sandbed, and it will adjust its preferred position all by itself. It likes a gentle, constant flow of water without too much turbulence to its mantle.

Make sure to leave plenty of grow room for it because they can get up to 24 inches even in captivity! :bigeyes:

No need to feed it - They're excellent filters of your water column.

Just make sure to keep your Calcium levels in range for proper shell growth. :thumbsup:
