i have had a derasa clam for about 2 months now.since i got it,it has about 1/2" of new shell growth.is this a normal groth rate for a derasa?my crocea hasnt grown nearly as much in the same time.
derasa get much larger than crocea i believe, so this might explain the difference in growth rate. also, i have noticed that the shell on my derasa is much thinner in thickness than my crocea, so this may help the clam grow faster.
cool,i was just wondering.all my clams have grown but my crocea, sqaummy, and maxima have all grown only about 1/4".so at the rate the derasa grows it will put on a few inches per year?
What's wierd is my deresa has grown more then 3 inches in a year. I bought mine small and it is now bigger then my hands clamped together by far. My squamosa has grown very large too. My maximas do not grow nearly as much as I can barely see much of a change. I think my croceas are slower growers too.
I think croceas max out at 6 or 7 inches but a derasa can reach 2 feet. Thats why they grow more rapid I believe but they do slow down as they get larger.
well i hope i get the 3" a year growth rate.i would be very happy seeing that 3" clam grow to 6".i plan on adding a 4-5" teardrop maxima as my next clam.i would love to end up with around 10 clams but we will see.
