Derasa on sand or small rock rubble?

as stated in title. What do we all think. by the way the clam is 5 inches or so...Right now he is on the sand bed.
I am just wondering about putting him on a rock frag on the sand.

I think you can bury a flat rock in the sand and get him to attach to it but leave him on the sand. Were did you get your derasa? Do you have a photo?

I did the buried rock on the sand before to try to help with the pyramid snails however it really did not help that much. Someone told me that the derasa likes to dig its foot in the sand. Just curious if others have experimented with both ways

I have mine on the sand, it seems to be doing fine.Richard from memfish said the flat rock under the clam wasn't really needed.

I have done both and they did well but I would put larger ones in the and bed thats usually where they will end up when they get even bigger.

Mine has been on the sand since I got him. Started at 3" or so now probobly closer to 5" or so. Every so often you can see his foot stirring around in the sand.

I think derasa's like prefer feet in the sand, mine has ignored the flat rock so far. They stir in the sand and actually turn themselves around slightly to get better light/flow.

When my derasa was smaller (4-5") I tried positioning it on the rocks. It jumped down to the sand every time. I gave up and just left it on the sand. It's now around 9".
