I'm getting one on wed. and have a question. running 3 150 halides and 4 96 watt actinics. is this enough to place this clam on the sand? I have an old clam shell my friend gave me and was thinking of placing it on top of this shell will that work or should I just place him on the sand?

Yes you should be fine, derasa is one of the less light demanding tridacnids. I would bury the shell in the sand under the clam and that way the clam would attach to it and sit still in place.
