Designer Clowns and hosts...

Is there anyone with any luck having these designer clowns like snowflakes, black ice, Picasso clowns to host ? Since they're completely tank bred will they host with atypical hosts or do they typically still go for typical percula hosting nems?

I'm not sure where people are getting this tank bred vs wild caught issue on hosting, the instinct is still there regardless.
I have had my picasso's almost 5 years now, so far they have been hosted by;
Malu
Mag
BTA's
LTA's
Of those only mag are natural to them, never an issue on accepting a host w/ the exception of a hadonni, they would not accept the hadonni.

Just got to wonder if designer clowns require designer anemones...

My snowflake hosts my green acid rain and rainbow bubble tip anemones!!! Before that was hosting my green long tentacle anemone.

what is the ultimate anemone which isn't too difficult to keep happy? Price doesn't matter but I'm in the market for an anemone for my pair of clowns and i want it to be the most colourful i can get. which species do you recommend? sorry off topic, hope you don't mind.

Ultimate by whose standards?
There are rock dwellars, sand dwellars, high/low light needy, and then that beauty in the eye thing.
IMO it is best to provide a natural host match that fits your clowns, so what type of clowns are we talking about?

I have two snowflakes. One is hosted by a mag and the other is hosted by an rbta because the other one wont share the mag.

The instinct being there to host makes sense but I was curious if the attraction to a mag or ritteri was the same since they have never seen either in the wild as they were not taken from the wild. Thanks for the feedback.

yes the attraction is there. in the wild they only have like 12 days after they hatch to find an anemone and after they hatched they never seen an anemone as they are just floating around with the currents but they still know they need to go into an anemone

if you want their natural host anemone then get mag, gig, and crispa. and they will usually enter the anemone within a week, most of the time within a couple hours. be warned that all those anemones are difficult to care for.

if you want an easy anemone that will host your clowns but it can take long time for the clowns to go into the anemone then go with a BTA.

either way make sure your tank is ready for which ever anemone you choose.

In my case w/ my present clown/nem combo and previous combo's a natural host match usually resulted in immediate or close to that acceptance of host nem, while an unnatural match may take longer, sometimes much longer, and in the case of my last hadonni complete refusal.

I have a pair of blackice snowflakes.

So ocellaris, natural hosts would be mag, gig, or mertensi, neither of which are easy.
Either of those would be considered a standout nem, mags and gigs seem to be taking the spotlight these days.
Though there are plenty of bright colored BTA's that are more forgiving and equally pretty IMO, but your occs may not take to it quickly if even at all.
Of all clowns I have had, occs seem to be the slowest to take to an unnatural match, and that seems to be most others experience from my reading here.
