Destination Australia: Clownfish

I'm trying to find more detailed information on clownfish distribution. In particular, I'm looking for which fish are endemic to the Great Barrier Reef.

I know that there are A. Ocellaris endemic to Darwin which is well northwest of the Great Barrier Reef. However, I can't find any solid information listing A. Ocellaris as endemic to GBR.

From this list I found generated from Fishbase.org: http://fish.mongabay.com/data/ecosystems/Saltwater Great Barrier Reef.htm

The only endemic clowns are:
A. clarkki
A. melanopus
A. perideraion

Any insight would be appreciated.

A. akindynos. There are several other species that are known to live very close to the GBR, like perideraion, percula, and chrysopterus. I would assume they can be found on the GBR, but I could be wrong.

When we were there in May we saw lots of clarki's, and (I think) chrysopterus at the far northern end of the GBR. I seem to remember seeing maroons too, but may be wrong about that. I'd have to look back at all my pictures.

Thank you folks, this helps. I'm considering running my tank as a biotype- possibly a deep water GBR tank, or even a Darwin specific reef fringe.

I lost my 3 clowns when Irene hit, and I am partial to Ocellaris. I'm flopping between these and pink skunks, but I ultimately want to stay true to the biotype.

Personally, the black "Darwin" Ocellaris have me leaning in that direction.

Keep the input coming. I especially love hearing from people who have had the opportunity to dive the area.

Keep us posted on your tank. I'm planning a biotope myself, but like you, I'm having trouble deciding on a species. :)

ETA: Found this link, which lists A. melanopus as found off the northern Great Barrier Reef:

I know this is an old thread, but I saw maroon clowns, chrysopterus, Clarkii, and pink skunk clowns on the northern end of the GBR and the Coral Sea.
