Determined Weaver squares off with old squad!!!

new thread for tonight...Once groomed to be their ace of the future, Jeff Weaver said being traded by the Tigers was emotional for him.

DETROIT -- Jeff Weaver has returned to Detroit and Comerica Park. Former teammate Todd Jones wasn't exactly there to welcome him with open arms.
Jones had a few comments about the former Tiger that irritated Cardinals manager Tony La Russa before St. Louis' 7-2 win over the Tigers in Game 1 of the World Series on Saturday night.

"I am the wrong guy to ask about Jeff Weaver," Jones said in the Detroit News. "I am not a big advocate of his and I wasn't a big advocate of his when he was here.

"He was a good pitcher who never really panned out here. Maybe he found a home in St. Louis, but there's no love lost here that he's gone."

Weaver will be back on Sunday as the St. Louis starter for Game 2. He is 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA in three playoff starts, and La Russa wasn't thrilled that one of Weaver's ex-teammates was taking shots at him.

"What Jeff Weaver has done for us ... those comments upset me," La Russa said. "I don't know what the history is. I know Todd Jones. I've had several conversations with him, and I respect what he has done in Detroit. He's a really good pitcher.

"But I was disappointed. Those should be addressed privately between teammates or ex-teammates. To air them publicly, I was disappointed. The teammate that Jeff has been for us, we want to rally against those comments."

Since we are the underdog here, I hope he sticks it to them real good!

That is all in the past. I have to agree with La Russa on that one. It should have been kept private between two former teammates.

If the Jeff Weaver we have seen in the playoffs thus far shows up tonight, the Tigers could be in serious trouble. Either way we still need the bats to show up like they did last night.

Without a couple of runs, Reyes performance last night would have been for nothing.

apparently espn did a thing that showed he had the same "dirt" during the ALDS and ALCS

The thing:

They brought that up in the first inning and stated that the Cards will def. ask about it after the inning was up. I would think if it had been something illegal more would have been said. But then again, if it wasn't something illegal, wouldn't they have brought that up too after it was checked out?

wow, what a run of bad coincidences for kenny rogers, he just happened to pick up "mud" before both of those games and they just happened to give him identical looking "dirt stains"

forget the fact that his post season pitching prior to this year was terrible and now all of a sudden he's the golden child

I saw the official statement for what the ooze was.
Rogers Quote "I gave Slimer a high five before the inning and my hand must have had some ectoplasm on it. Slimer is a huge Tigers fan."
