Detritus Removal

I use it. Probably the best $20 investment Ive made in a while. MAke sure you have hose connected to inlet side and not outlet side.

Thanks Dave for the feedback Dave. I think I'll pick one up and give it a whirl. I've certainly dropped $20.00 on worse....

I've always used my Shop Vac or just a turkey baster to grab bits of settled detritus, but this looks much handier.

Looks powerful for vacuuming, but wouldn't a simple siphon be easier?

It can be difficult to get the siphon started if the sump is at floor level.

Thinking of picking one of these up for vacuuming the detritus out of my sump.

Has anyone ever used this? If so, what has your experience been with it? For $20.00 I can't see how you can go wrong TBH.

I agree the vaccum is the way to go, as they work like a charm, quick and easy. Enjoy!

I picked one of these up for my next water change. will be much easier to get at the detritus on the bottom of my sump, cant wait to try it out

They work well and I haven't had any rust problems so far.

They suck up a lot of water, so you need to drain most of your sump first and then vacuum the rest. You can only fill the 5 gallon bucket about half way before you need to empty it.

I put the tube in my overflow boxes also to clean them out.

A better tool is the Python hose with the green faucet adapter. It has a venturi to create suction and easily pulls up water and debris from floor level, depositing it right into the sink. I find the bucket shop vacs are a PITA for this application.

when I do a WC I use a RIO 2100 and a section of 3/4" vinyl hose to get most of the water out of the sump and finish it off with a shopvac. Before I do the WC I will disturb the sandbed as much as possible to get the detritus to the sump. I have about a 1-1.5" sandbed

I love my Python for water changes but find it doesn't work well (for me) when cleaning the sump/fuge areas. The suction power goes way down when trying to use it up-hill (my sink is higher then the sump) It also seems to clog really easy with just a little chaeto. I find the bucket vac very useful for the sump... Best $20 I've spent on this hobby

Big debris can definitely trip up the Python. A lot of it depends on how you run your sump. I run all mine bare bottom so I'm just cleaning up the detritus the filter socks miss. Flow depends on how strong your faucet is, too.
