DHL nightmare!

Pssh, EvilE I allways Use UPS, and love them. I actually have some uni-seals coming for my DIY skimmer, so I am probably going to regret saying this, lol, but I have NEVER had a problem with any shipper. I havent done alot of Reef related shipping yet, but have done some and havent had any issues. I also havent done any Livestock shipping.
I think it all depends on many things. Where its coming from, where its going (different shipping stations are better than others, even when in the same company)
I think we should do a poll on this! A I hate this shipping company poll and an I love this shipping company poll.

Ok, I agree that the livestock should be saved as much as possible. I didn't know what to do about the whole shipment fiasco. I have wasted a lot of time and energy on this whole thing. Not that I'm saying that trying to say that saving an animal's life is a waste of time. It's been everything else.

The joking about hazmat suits and what not was people trying to make light of what had been a very tense and stressful situation. I appreciate the comments. Thank you.

Bottom line is...
I will try to save anything I can. I'm picking up the order with the new FedEx order today.

Skip, if you have any suggestions on what can be done, please let me know. I will PM my phone number.

I'm thinking immediate water change, no time to wait for acclimation. QT, lugol's dip, good flow.

I have a 29 tank/stand/light if you need it for QT. Can bring it whenever.

Awesome! I'll see what I'm working with. I'll give you a call.

Sounds good. Dave said we also have an extra powerhead and a AquaClear 70(300) filter I can bring to run carbon with.

I have the DHL order. It stinks horrifically, even before I opened the box. Looks like everything is a complete loss.

Sorry to hear that. :(

Thank you so much for putting all this together and please don't let it discourage you from doing it again. I certainly appreciate it.

I have had UPS break things---for me and my wife (she sells Gold Canyon candles) and they have lost packages before--to me, out of all the shippers I have used, they are the worst. They seem to take longer to get your stuff to you too. It's just a matter of experience and opinion I guess, just like anything else. It's comparing apples to oranges.....

sorry to hear about the first order. curious how everything from the second shipment turned out? everything come in ok?

My Experience with DHL is as follows: I used to overnight live blackworms from CA to GA. About 1/2 of the shipments made it on the proper date. I only did around 10 shipments with DHL, but like stated atleast 5 were DOA.

YMMV

FedEx shipment came in just as expected. No losses. Beautiful pieces. I really like my ducans. They're gorgeous!

DHL will never ever have my business. I'll pay more for shipping, if necessary.

glad to hear everything came in alive on the second shipment. cant wait to see some pictures of what you all received.

Here's a few. Mine came in looking awesome! A couple were missing but I know Miguel will make it good. It was a big order, I had 13 pieces total - two were freebies.

It seems like everyone has a (+) and a (-) story to tell about shipping....for the most part we've had good luck with USPS, UPS and Fed Ex....DHL cant really comment on as we havent used them much....Recently had an order shipped via UPS (paid June 26th) and it arrived July 9th after UPS lost it somewhere between Georgia and Arizona (still no explanation why) but we're thankfull it was only drygoods and not livestock...FedEx just failed on us for the 1st time with a skimmer that was ordered from N Carolina and the package arrived with the box top crushed down like an accordion (needless to say the skimmer was cracked in two places, the prefilterbox in 3 places and the skimmate container had a chunk broken off). But the seller (RC Member) is doing right by us and issuing a refund plus FedEx just picked up their crushed box today to return to the seller for a damage claim (pics taken b4 they picked it up)..just our $.02 worth...

I'm very glad to hear that everything got there ok this time arounds, if anyone has any issues with corals that arrived please feel free to keep me posted, since they may have gotten thrown by fedex a bit.

This thread has gotten very interesting, and I've had a lot of fun reading through everyone's previous shipping company issues. I think the thing to remember is that every shipping company is awful, they all have their issues, and it's not so much comparing apples to oranges as much as rotten apples to mushy oranges that smell bad. I'd rather have neither, but if I had to pick one, I'd know that it would probably taste bad.

Due to the issues with this order, and THREE (!) other very large orders this week alone, I've decided to see what fedex can offer me for rates to see if I can switch over. It's been a long time since I've shipped with fedex, and I've since very nicely upgraded my shipping methods to the point that they should do fine. Either way, shipping through fedex will always be an option on any orders from here on out with no price difference at all. I think that I've had it with DHL at this point as well.

Thanks very much to all of you for your patience, I know that it's been a very long few days for all of us, and please feel free to contact me with any questions, thanks again!
