Diamond Gobies.

Do diamond gobies have short life spans? I just had my second disappear, not likely from jumping, as the tank is covered and there is no way he could get out through the top. This is 2 in 18 months or so..not consecutively.

I never found the body of the first, in or out of the tank, and the same with this one. Just gone. I have noticed a slight algea bloom over the last couple days, coinciding with his disappearance....so leaving me to wonder if he died and other tank inhabitants ate him.

when they get spooked they usually try to jump out, they will fit in the smallest places, even get in the overflow, i have gone through several, i finally gave up. awesome fish for cleaning the bottom of the tank though.

My lfs got some in that were the size of a hotdog. The one I got is much smaller not even half that. He hasn't grown much in 6 months so I think they live awhile.

I really think they need to be in a tank with lots of live rock. When mine gets spooked it shoots into a cave for safety.

They need a large, deep and productive sand bed. From what I've read, starvation is the usual cause of an untimely death. I would suggest you do not try another. There are other animals that can help turn your sand if that's what you're looking for. Good luck.

They live for several years (as long as you didn't get a giant sized older one). They like to hide alot in the rockwork and can sometimes get squished by shifting rocks. It depends on what your rockwork is like. You may have a crab or something taking them out while they are sleeping if they are small. Check the overflow as well as they can be a bit jumpy.

Mine eats whatever I put in the tank. It also sifts the sand all day.

This is a terrific fish for keeping the sand bed clean.

A top is a must as they will jump

I put this down on the bottom of my tank, then added my rock which are LARGE pieces and then added sand. I think this made it more stable because the pistol shrimp and goby do some MAJOR sand moving! They have made an entire tunnel under one piece of rock on the bottom far left pictured below! That is about a foot+ long piece of solid rock.
