So I finally caught my multiple-burrow-digging, coral-burying diamond goby last night using the water bottle trick... Traded him in for a yellow watchman.
I've been reading that while many behaviors are the same, the watchmans are less destructive and stay a fair bit smaller than the diamonds. Here's hoping my research was right! That little yellow guy is pretty cool looking.
The water bottle trap actually worked out pretty well... used a 1 liter aquafina bottle and inverted the front, filled partially with sand and laid a trail of brine shrimp to the inside... worked within 10 minutes of putting it in the tank.
