Diamond Goby

In Memoriam
a friend of mine bought a Dimand Goby and added it to his system which already housed a 2 inch lion fish. the lion fish was just too aggressive for the diamond goby to feel safe out and about so he stayed hid all day & nite COMPLETELY... we decided to take the goby out and place it in my tank with pretty much no aggressive fish. for some reason the goby is still in hiding 2 days later... any ideas... i know zip about this fish, would really appreciate the added info.
thx

nope... he is just tucked up under a 8 inch peice of LR... dont know if he is even sifting sand... but i know for sure that he isnt eating wheh the tank eats its daily brine and mysis...just stays in hiding... havent seen him since he went under the rock... i only know he is still alive in that same spot just cause i just saw the sand spit out... should i remove the rock during feeding time, or will that just stress him more not to eat?

Salt E if he's spitting out sand in the area of the rock, then he's eating whatever is in the sand near him...I know you've probably heard this phrase a million of times but give it time and your diamond goby will return out into the open water displaying its natural talent...spitting out sand and eating small worms and crustaceans. A majority of gobies sand sift searching for food. There's nothing to worry about unless your goby comes out floating.

Keep us posted.

thx larry...
hmm...
maybe im not being as clear as i should... i think its best for me to explain it like this... he is COMPLETELY HIDDEN under the LR and has been since his first 4 mins. into the tank... i think he is only spitting the sand out to make room for some perement housing ... but if what you say is correct... i need not worry :p (unless he's floating ;) ) i will be patient and hope for the best... thx all

I have the same problem since I got mine all he do is hidding & hidding ... Wish the best for me ....

He has post traumatic stress disorder. Treatment should have begun immediately after the survivor had been safely removed from the crisis situation. He should receive lots of rest, a psyc eval, and surround him with the fish and critters that love him the most. Make sure he knows and understands that he is important to his new mini ecosystem and that his peers in the new tank do not want to eat him, they just want to make friends. Make sure you examine and explore his feelings of anger, shame, or guilt, which are common among survivors of trauma.
Another step in the first phase is to teach the survivor to cope with posttraumatic memories, reminders, reactions, and feelings without becoming overwhelmed or emotionally numb. Trauma memories usually do not go away entirely as a result of therapy but become manageable with the mastery of new coping skills.
I think with the right amount of love and support he will be back to grinding his teeth and digging in to a face full of sand in no time at all.

Alright after 2 days hidding he now moving out of the rock not moving all around the tank yet but in & out & spitting the sand , he doing good so far . Smiles ....

I wouldn't expect him to be moving all around the tank at any time.Mine has been in my tank for almost 2 years and only barely comes out of his cave a few inches every now and then to look around.
If I think he's trying to "tell" me he's hungry I usually just drop some pellets near his home.Sometimes he'll hop out and grab some and sometimes he just ignores it.

Ok, hands down one of the funniest posts of the year IMO!

Thanks reefer for that, I needed a good laugh here at work.

But seriously, give it a few days, he/she will eventually come out IME with these fish.

When he does come around, make sure your tank is as "carpet surf" safe as you can.

Diamond Gobies are NOTORIOUS jumpers.

My diamond must be weird.... I just got him today and he was out cleaning the sand up until I turned the lights off. I thought he was great.

Glad I could help with a good chuckle for the day...I know that I needed one!! Man what a rough week!!!

I have a Diamond Goby in my 90g. I've had him in there for a couple months now. Since he was added to the tank he's been sifting sand non stop. Eats flake, pellets and frozen foods. My purple tang used to punk it and it would dart up the corner of the tank and hit my eurobracing. He's cool now tho. He always stays at the substrate level and goes into his burrow at night. Neat fish.

Is the goby still in hiding?
