Diamond Jack's 90 gallon 3x2x2

Thanks Ryan. The tank is turning out as good as I could have imagined. I'm really glad the hair algae is gone.

Me and the wife were on a mission last week to find a fish. It led us to Twins where where found this little guy.

He has been awesome. Not very shy. Eats anything. Doesn't attack any critters, fish, or corals. So far I suppose. Hope it stays this way. I'm glad we got him last week. There were several at Twins last week and now there are none.

I know i've added a lot of fish kinda fast. Faster than I wanted to, but I ran into the healthy looking Anthias and Blue Chin and didn't want to miss out on them. I'm doing extra water changes and monitoring nitrates. So far so good.

Yeah I was super stoaked when I was researching fish and found the blue jaw trigger. I wanted a trigger but didn't think I could find one that was reef safe. Hey Jeff what do you feed them and how much do food do you think they need to eat a day?

The last fish I plan on getting in a month or two is a small yellow tang. I'm toying with the idea of adding a pair of true percs that a friend wants to give me down the line. I would have to get rid of my current clown.

Getting close to maxed out on fish. I do like having a lot of fish in the tank visually. I think it makes my little piece of the reef more like the real thing. Just worry about water quality with having to feed them 3 times a day. So far so good though so keeping fingers crossed.

With me I feed my fish whenever they tell me they are hungry (everyone knows this sign) and I feed them homemade frozen and pellets. I want a pair of picassos but they cost (income tax lol).

Got a few new friends in the qt tank. A friend of mine had to break down his tank. I'm babysitting his corals and got some awesome free fish. Gotta love it. Going to let them hang out in here for a bit before added them to the main tank.

Quick update. Fattened up the Yellow Tang enough. Wanted to give him/her some more room to swim. He/She seems to have made friends. I want to move my perc clown pair in but my lone clown is not giving up her turf in the 90 easily. Jeff gave me some good tips on how to catch her. Will hopefully get her out soon.

Pink Elephants are pretty huge and not very pink.

Otherwise all is pretty good. Decided to stop using filter sock in sump due to only having 2 and not enough time to keep cleaning them. Added some live rock to the sump. Thinking about making a small fuge area. That's all for now, nice seeing everyone at the meeting.

Blue jaws are great I had a pair of em in my 180 they were fun to watch the female would always swim circles around my vortech

Man your tank is coming out gorgeous! I like the rock you used too. The scape is awesome and you have awesome taste in fish and corals. I seriously need to stop by next time that I work out in Elk Grove. ;)

Thanks guys.

@Dan- The bluejaw is great! Every night about 7-8 he does loops around the powerheads and drains in the back of the tank. Me and my wife figure he is getting his daily cardio in. He was doing the same thing at twins when we decided to buy him. When watching some youtube videos and thinking about getting one I saw a video with a bluejaw doing this also. Wierd.

@Colin- I've been having lighting issues. I got this led fixture second hand it had like 100 1w leds. It was working good, but then 36 in the middle decided to go out. The lighting still seems ok. I can't even tell a difference when comparing fts, but I wanted brighter long term. I bought 5 leds from rapid to try and fill in the middle and managed to blow them up. I will say they were very nice and bright before I roasted them. Yay! Not sure if I want to try again. Or wait till a nice used fixture comes up and upgrade. Decisions...

@Ryan- Let me know if your ever in the area. Your always welcome to check the tank out.

General question to anyone. Would t5's work ok on my tank if I just have sps at the top?

My biggest 2 led fails.

1) Using too big of wire. Needed to get 18-20 not sure what I got from my work but I think it was slightly bigger 16-17? It was harder to get the wires to secure into the connectors. Should have just got different wire.

2) Hook more than 3 up at a time. If any less than 3 are hooked up they make a nice "pop" sound and stop working. I had 3 hooked up to see if I could get this to work and work it did... then one of the connections must have came loose and that was it.

I'm pretty sure I got this on my next attempt. Had to go out for some drinks to numb the loss of the leds. I'm finally over it. I still seriously need to get more lighting in my tank....

Just wanted to post that I decided to give it another run at catching the ocellaris clown in my 90. After about an hour of chasing with 2 nets in every nook and cranny and spotter help from my wife, I finally netted her. I had pretty much given up hope so, woohoo!

On a side note I caught the 2 true percs in about 30 seconds. I also feel much better knowing that the little clown has no longer bested me.
