Diamond whole saw

Please excuse the spelling error in the title heading. Where can you find a place to get a good diamond hole saw and drill press for drilling a tank other than BRS?

Thank you for your response.?

Most good hardware stores stock diamond hole saws. They can also be found on ebay (thou their quality is usually only good for a couple of holes) You can use any drill, just remember to go slow, keep the saw bit wet and keep it straight.

You go slow and let the weight of the drill apply the pressure. It should only take a couple of minutes per hole. You don't need any fancy drill press. Just make a jig so you can keep the drill lined up and voila...you have a hole! Mind you I've seen it done on youtube I haven't done it myself.

I bought mine from glass-holes. They have very good instructions and as a first timer I found it extremely easy to drill the three holes I needed.

^^+1^^

I bought mine from glass-holes with an overflow kit and it worked great. No need for a drill press. I drilled the side pane of my old 75 gallon tank with no problems following their directions. It was my first time ever trying it.

I would recommend using a drill that has a variable clutch on it. That piece of advice came in useful for me. Set the clutch to a lower setting so that if the saw sticks at all, the drill just stops and doesn't apply to much force shattering the glass pane. My clutch tripped a few times as I got towards the end of the hole cut.

Other then that, I set the tank on it's side so I could drill / press straight down through the template I taped to the glass while standing on a small ladder. Put some towels or something on the inside/bottom of tank opposite where you're drilling the hole so the piece you cut out doesn't fall and shatter the opposite side :-)

So far my newly drilled over-flow has been running to perfection on my closet refugium for over a year now.

one bit of advice I can offer is get some plumbers putty, make a ring around the area to drill and put some water in the area the putty will keep the water there. Also place an old pillow or something on the opposite side to catch the falling glass disc.

I ended getting my bit from BRS most of the big box places did not carry one as big as I needed 2". I also did not look for a really high quality bit since it was more than likely a one time use item. good luck.
