Diary of a 29

Well see the problem is the width. I would rather not build a whole tank out of plex-glass and the width of all the tank sizes wont fit. The only size that will fit is the 10 gallon. That is why I want to just use it for the skimmer and then make the AquaClear the fuge. So that I can have a little more room. Here are some pictures of the stand.

Can you have the ccs 65 hang on to the sump? Because if it does go for it, it will take up a lot less room and then you can have an actual fuge in your sump. arnt 10s and 15s the same width? and isnt a 20L the same width too? Id look a little more into that, beceause the bigger the better, and once you have it set up you arnt going to want to take it down to make it bigger. After looking at the pic I think, take a sawzall and cut the molding on the bottom for more room.
Good Luck

well i dont think i want to cut my stand:( Also I pretty sure all the widths are different. And also can the Css65 fit in a 10 gallon sump. Cause i have already bought the light so i dont want to have to buy a new one.

Salty Brother- Thanks for the Pic. So you think the CSS65 can fit in the 10 gallon.

Mr Pink Floyd- What do you mean by it depends on the baffle sizes. That confused me, Im not planing on adding baffles just one on the side where the pump will be.

Also some Questions
1. Can i have the water flow into a filter sock instead of having its own conpartment
2. So the skimmer can go in the 10gallon sump
3. the aqua clear can hang on the sump.

Also i just got some Instant Ocean Salt its 160 gallons I think and it came in a bucket. Well when I opened it, it had white mist coming out of it. Is that ok? I never had that happened. Also please answer this question cause i would like to get my salt in right now but i dont want to add bad salt.

Thanks again everyone for all your help.

the mist is just fine granuels of salt, add a baffle right after the skimmer, so the fuge is a seperate area, the HOB filter might now work, all those questiosn depend on the size of the sump/fuge tank

Well I think i will go with a 10 gallon. Mainly cause I just want the skimmer in it and i want the space to put things. So in the 10 gallon sump will be the skimmer and also the AquaClear as a fuge. How does that sound. Also I might later on upgrade but not right now.

Do you have the 10gal right now? Becuase if you do, trust me, see if you can hang it on the sump, It would be alot nicer, and a lot of people say it works better that way. Then you can have a true fuge

Well I dont mind how it looks and also I want to use the AquaClear cause i already bought a light and glued it together. I would be a waste of money.

The CSS65 will fit in a 10, however, it will be pretty cramped and you won't be able to get more than maybe 2 baffles between it and your return pump assuming your return pump is submerged. As to the 15 gallon tank. There are two sized 15 gallon tanks which is where the confusion is coming from. A 15 tall has the same footprint as a 10 only its 50% taller. A 15 regular's footprint is 12" deep and 24" long so it wouldn't work. The 15 tall's advantage is only that it will hold more volume of water to prevent flooding when the power goes out. It will also be a little more difficult to access stuff in your sump depending on the height of your stand.

I would also recommend hanging the skimmer off your tank. It should fit, but I would strongly recommend if you go this route to build in an overflow tube into your collection cup and have it empty into a container over your sump because it will eventually overflow.

I've got a CSS65 hanging on my 10 sump with 4 baffles with a return pump (mag 3) and it works pretty well, even though when the power goes out the sump water level rises nearly to the top.

Good luck, 29s are great tanks

Hey Puffer ... wanted to answer your question

The Red Spiny Sea Star is very easy to take care of ... it eats algae and detritus. However it will not tolerate quick oxygen and S.G. changes so you have to keep that pretty steady. Once fully aclimated it's a very hardy starfish.

Yea ... natural reefs are at that temperature however aquaria should be kept a lil' bit cooler for a buffer between hot/cool weather I'd aim for 81.5. Also fish metabolisms speed up during high temp. so you might get more crapping due to quicker digestion.

I'll let you in on a secret :P When I was a noob I had a starfish just like the one I have now but my heater went crazy and brought my temp up to like 90. I panicked got a new heater before night time and instead of bringing my temp down slowly I set the new heater to 81 and through the night my room got cooler and hence brought the tank temp down too quick and my starfish melted :hmm3:

The problem is with starfish if it's too hot they will just be hella lazy and stay at the water's surface to cool rather than eat and be productive. So I guess you should bring your temp down a tad bit.

ok thanks Its not that high yet i keep it at 80 but heard when i get my new light the temp will go up so i was just wondering.
