Diatoms

So my nano has been running about 9 days, and i've got a diatom bloom. I assume this is a good thing for a new tank because it indicates that my cycle is coming along well. Some of my rock is turning brownish, and a few patches in the sand as well.

The question, should i do a water change? Or is this too early in an unestablished tank? And could the diatom bloom be due to poor quality water? I'm using a 6 stage RO/DI but haven't changed the cartridges in a while. I'm sure its due for it. I should probably check it with my TDS meter but its out of batteries... sigh

Give it time. It will pass. Just a new tank syndrome. You could add a little extra flow to cut it back some.

Indeed what they said. I've always read that you should wait to do anything other than top offs until your cycle is complete, otherwise you could prolong your cycle.

What are your livestock plans?

I'm planning on doing majority softies, with a few lps maybe. I haven't given any thought to fish yet. Clean up crew is on the way, will be in springfield tomorrow. Maybe a cleaner shrimp? dunno :)

I need to get another RO membrane... whats a good one to get? Price is definitely an issue as well ...

cleanup crew is in. They are all doing well and its just eat eat eat eat eat eat eat eat! Little guys must be starving.
