Die Hydroids.... DIE!!!!!!!

So I have a little bit of a hydroid problem.... they, are not making me happy... here's one main rock with them on it to give you some back ground. It didn't help it was also infested with manjano anemonies, (or whatever you call those pests...)

That reminds of the day when my Dad decided to get rid fire ants with a can of gasoline.

Sad thing is I bet they'll be back soon. You should have boiled the rock too just to be sure

I'm sure the coraline will die off locally, but the rock wasn't out of the water long enough or exposed to the torch long enough to do any damage to the microbes and bacteria living deep within. I did see one mini bristleworm try and make a break for it, but he came out medium-rare. I'll post day by day shots to see if the hydroids come back.

I hate those guys more than hair algae covered in cyano, dipped in flatworms with a side of red-bugs comined!

4 days and counting. They don't look like they are comming back any time soon on that rock. On another note, I made up some SUPER-thick kalk paste to put on a couple other small colonies which I couldn't get out of the tank to torch on account they are on very large, structural rocks near the bottom of my rockwork. I did this on Friday afternoon, and turned off the pumps for 2 hours, to allow the kalk to do it's thing. 3 days later and they look as dead as the torched ones. I will post pics tonight hopefully if someone reminds me.

Update:
7 weeks later and they have not returned!!!!
The coralline has completely grown back as well.

as for the other colonies I couldn't pull out of the tank to torch, a thin layer of epoxy putty did the triick.

epoxy if definitely the cure for rocks that can't be removed.

The Kalk paste works, but will take two or three applications. I prefer the epoxy for the colonies that I can't remove from the tank to torch. Leave the epoxy on them for two to three weeks, and they should be destroyed. then you can either chip it off, or wait for it to get covered in coralline, but I find it takes a couple months for coralline to grow on epoxy, it might be something in the chemical make-up which must completely leach out before it grows. anyone else find this to be true as well?
