Difference between sensors?

Can anybody tell me which one of the water sensors are better (optical or float) and why?

The only one available right now is the float sensor as there is a new external mounted optical sensor being launched soon.

It comes down to personal choice really.

The float sensors require cleaning once a month and are subject to snails sitting on them.

The opticals also require cleaning but do not have the snail issues but are twice the price.

Does the new external mount optical sensor share the same sensor with the old one (with just a new mount) so that existing opticals might be retrofitted?
