Both are similar in coloration, seem to get same length and same disposition.

Am I missing anything? Either woudl go into a 220 gallon.

There is some disagreement as to which fish is easier and some swear the nigricans is a stronger fish and others swear the japonicus is hardier. I've never kept either but like most tangs from the genus that I have kept they need lots of room (which you have) and clean and well oxygenated water and with a good mix of food most species are not terribly hard to keep. The Japonicus seems much more common in the trade and I would look for a fish that has been collected from a better place as the main factor.

+1 You can easily find sources that say either is much hardier.(I've kept both and think A. nigricans is easier to acclimate, but that's pure opinion). I agree on looking at the collection spot, its a vital consideration that we often over-look. BTW A QT is vital for all new fish, but tangs of this genus are very prone to carry ich; easily treated in a QT.

+1 on George Washington's observation too, very timely.

Where should I be looking at a collection spot? I plan on buying the fish from LA, LA-DD, or BlueZoo.

And I have 2 Q tanks!

All top-notch dealers. I avoid origins that simply say 'Indo-Pacific" (not specific enough), The Phillipines, and Indonesia. IMO, some out-lying parts of Indonesia, like Bali, are fine. There are some great fish from all these areas, but there are also lots of fish that are delayed, mishandled, even caught with cyanide. Great dealers, like LA & BZ do the best they can at weeding out problem collectors & shippers; but nothing is perfect. DD is another story; the fish they hand pick have been in their hands a while and examined closely enough to catch almost all problems.
I've bought all my fish online since F&S went into the fish business; I lost a ton of them to Katrina, and have moved and re-stocked several big tanks. That's a lot of fish. Probably 70% LA, 20% DD, and 10% BZ. I can't remember receiving a fish from any of them that I suspected should not have been shipped.
