Difficult to acquire?

Hmm ... I got no email and I got no call ... I only have my cellphone and I didn't get any messages.

Chalk it up to a glitch in the matrix or something :)

......
The mantis is getting better by the minute. He flips over every now and then, and stops to rest often, but things are still lookin up. He's been exploring the rubble rock and has scouted a few potential homes. Also, the emerald crab hitchhiker was smart and decided not to put up a fight - once he retreated and a second time he just sat stone still and let the mantis literally walk over him!

Must be as my partner said he talked to you too....

shipping is a set deal, they charge a 100 POUND rate, is about $45-60 depending what airport.....so it cost the same for one pound or 100 pounds...makes it tough to send one shrimp economicaly.........I talked to you on the phone yesterday, yes?

Or was that in the matrix??

You are definitely thinking of someone else.

Anyhow, the little bugger made it through the first night. I can't see him but there are about 4 new burrows that he made overnight.

weedhopper, I'm not sure if it's the species I wanted but he's cool enough looking for me. He's got nice body colors, orange legs and gills, cool googly eyes. What more could a fish nerd ask for?

hwarang! That is an amazing specimen man.. wow.

how large is that?

I just picked up one from my lfs, but its not quite as colourful. And, really shy, cuz it hasnt come out of its burrow yet.

It's only about 1.5 to 2 inches long. He's not shy at all. The whole time I was taking pix of him, he was watching me. His googley eyes followed the camera. And every other time I look at the tank he's out in front. Cool. He also happily ate some flake food. Later I'll try some carnivore cubes until I figure out what kinds of cool live stuff I can chuck in there.

I've gotta get me one of these! I've been reading this forum for a while now, trying to talk myself OUT of another tank, but that last picture has convinced me to purchase a small tank and get ready for a mantis!

Would a 5g mini bow work well for a mantis tank?

If anyone else have find one in their TBS rock, let me know...I'll pick up the shipping and a little bonus $ for you.

How do u get such close pics?

LOL!

Well I just broke my beloved Nikon Coolpix 4300 and stuff. My new FujiFilm s5000 just doesn't cut it. I took about 200 pix this weekend trying to get to know my camera, but it just sucks donkey. Big time. The pic of the mantis is probably the worst photo I've posted online in 2 years.

I'm likely going to return it tonight.

Thanks for the compliment anyhow :)

ecugman, it would work fine. Mine is in a 2.5 (for now)

Cool, how do you tell? (I'm still new at this, but I like to learn!)

I thought I saw the little p33ns on the front walking legs.

The male gonopods come from the inside base of the last pair of walking legs (thoracomere 8) and are about half the length of the walking leg. They usually curve toward the mid-line. The female's gonopores are on the midline of theventral "rib" that runs between the first pair of walking legs (thoracomere 6). In most species including Neogonodactylus wennerae it looks like a figure 8. I think I can see this in your photo.

Sorry to change the subject, but Gonodactylus where do u work in Berkeley? At the university? If so, do they have a good marine bology program, because im starting to look at colleges.

jjrock - she is approx. 2 inches long and I think she is perhaps the coolest marine critter I've ever pwned. If I could find a way to put a cleanup crew in with her, I'd dedicate a 20L aquarium to her. As it is, I think I'm going to end up moving her to a 5.5 or a 10 after she molts and grows some.

Gonodactylus- thank you for that very detailed information!

Weedhopper, what are you thanking me for? You did me a huge favor! Of course I sent it right away, I wouldn't wanna be a jerk.

Thanks again and I really appreciate it.

Ps she is very healthy now and has moved up from flake to carnivore cubes.

This weekend I'm going to introduce her first live meal, probably a small snail of some sort.

Damn!
Thanks again!
