Digital Aquatics Archon Owners Thread

that is most likely how it will need to happen.

from reading a bit, the interface coralvue made is for the Apex, so one will just need to make a cable from the 0-10v port on archon to this box. ill bet the plug ends are the ones used on the apex VDM modules.

Only the cord is for apex (uses their standard ethernet plug), we are hoping the will be bringing on a cord for our soon.

So far, so good today. Everything seems to be running as it should (like it was on my RKL), just waiting to see the float switches trip for the ATO.

Elmexotics I just updated to the latest software according to your instructions, and I cant seem to be able to access the Archon via http://(newname) Is that the correct format? also, As usual, my skimmer is connected to PC4 1 and 2. Every time I update and restart, channel 1 turns in to an input. I have stated this a few times in the past. I was also wondering why the Archon shows 251 volts?

Sorry, thought I caught that. Access is:hostname.local ie. Archon.local (I updated the instructions, thank you).

The Archon voltage is not a relevant measurement at this time. It is there for future options.

I will look more into the channels turning into an input, I thought we had taken care of that issue, but if one person is seeing it, it is still an issue. To rectify (while we work on the fix today), turn off the pc4 for 10 seconds, and turn back on, this should get it back to an output.

For whatever reason, its not working for me. what is the exact format in the address line supposed to look like? I have tried "hostname.local", "http://hostname.local", "//hostname.local" and they don't work.

OK.

What other videos do you guys want from me???

1. Initial setup (connecting to Archon wifi and then accessing it - Planned but there are some developments very soon.
2. calibrating the Salinity probe

Any others you guys think I need to do?

So.....I had a power failure today. Yay PGE. Anyhow, now neither my pH probe or my iTemp probe is reading...help? I restarted it using shutdown, turning off both the PC4s until the amber light went out.

Okay - I've got an interim idea set up - I just have the heaters running 15 min and then off for 30 for now. It also won't let me update the software.

If you have current software then there is no need to update. Which temp probe are you using? On mine every time I power down the temp on thr SL2v2 module goes out of calibration. I have to recalibrate it. The iTemp probd on the Archon does not do this though. I have reported this isssue. It started doing this after software update 41.

The 'update software' button was back so I thought that meant there was an update available. I plugged the iTemp probe back in - it was in archon. I tried it on all modules, 2 PC4s and an SL1 (just in the extra BUS slots). The raw data doesn't change more than 0.25 degrees.

I gotta go to work - but for some reason when I rebooted it this time - the latest hardware update hopped out of it and now I'm back at 10.01.0

I came home, and everything is running swimmingly now. I sent Eric an email of what I think happened, and if he concurs I will post both the symptoms and the resolutions so others can search for it. I just wanna make sure my theories aren't out in left field.

Ok so heres how my update went. In a single word. Horrible.

So I hadnt checked on the controller in a while as it was working flawlessly and I was really not needing to check on it. So yesterday I decided to. And for some reason went to the systems page. Saw it said software update available. I clicked it, it shut down and restarted, no issue. Then it said hardware update available. I clicked it, it shut down, turned itself back on and all was good. Only odd thing is my itemp probe and PH probe lost calibration. Said my tank was 94 degrees and 7 ph. Oh well I figured it was time to recalibrate anyway. So I decided to check on the forum and see what was up. Thats when I saw this post. So I said cool Ill do this update to. Thought maybe that would fix my temp and ph as well. Followed it exactly, copied the files over to the flash drive, started it back up. Thats when things when downhill fast. When I went to the systems page it said software update available. It said I was on Software: 1.09.34 and Hardware: 1.08.10. So i remembered reading in the post that I needed to do all the software and hardware updates before this web page update. So I clicked the software update button.....waited......nothing. Waiting 10 minutes, nothing. Decided to click again.......waited......10 minutes, nothing. Did it again. Rebooted it......nothing. Tried at least 10 times. Thought maybe I needed to do the webpage update first....HUGE MISTAKE. Crashed everything. I restarted it, it lost everything. Said software and hardware were on 1.1.1 and getversions did nothing. It said nothing was connected to the archon, yet all the outlets were running. There werent even any inputs, not temp, no ph, nothing. Thought I bricked it. I must have restarted it 100 times. Then I remembers I had a fresh untouched install from May on my laptop. Loaded that up and fortunately it worked, I just had to reprogram everything. Now Im back to 1.09.34 and 1.8.10 with a button that says software update and one that says update webpage. Again the software one does nothing. I wont click the webpage one. Now my itemp probe is irratic at times. It will work great and onces every few hours it will jump from 78 to like 85 and then right back down. It never did this EVER until this update. I should have left it alone. It was working so well. So any ideas how I proceed from here. Ive come this far I might as well get this updated but not at the expense of another 3 hours redoing everything. I know the webpage thing took because it had the reefkeeper cloud ID thing on the systems page, but now that is gone. So any help, particularly from Eric, would be great. I dont know how it seems every time I touch this thing it takes a huge turn for the worse. But its very frustrating. But to the other guys with the probe issues, you are not alone. HELP!!!!

Honestly I prefer they have only one forum and that is on their site. There are two many forums and one forum actually has more sponsors than RC even though it is still smaller. So now you need 3 forums ... I prefer they have thier own or just pick one and drop their own forum, one is plenty.

But Dave I disagree this has everything to do with the Archon.. Support is a big issue when people make a decision on buying a controller.

It is nice they have people like you that know the controller in and out and help out. But support is very lacking and one guy can not do it all..

He cant keep up with engineering, questions, updates, answering the phone etc. The controller will go no where because they wont have new modules because he aint got the time which will mean they slip farther behind the rest of the industry. IF DA don't put more resources, commitment and manpower behind the Archon it is dead in the water. One guy can not do it all and it probably has to be frustrating for him trying so hard and then has to read posts like this. I feel sorry for the guy.

For most buying the Archon it is the biggest hold back. I think for people like me that really want one it is supper frustrating that we don't see any commitment to change the situation when it is a giant issue. Is this something that they do not know about? I bet hiring one person would create a surge in sales because we see them trying to rectify the problem. If they can not afford to hire someone to help out well that tells us allot already.

My opinion has changed from excitement and thinking they would be back to the large position they had in the market to this is only going to sell to a handful of people and be gone.

It is true too I was so excited and told one manufacturer to make their units compatible with the Archon/RK because it was going to take a huge market share. They wanted me to beta test the unit. I only have the lite so I couldn't but they wanted me to do it when I got my Archon. Now I worry if they will even be in the hobby now.

I am not the only one that feels this way and DA needs to know about it to solve the problem..

Again I agree

The lack of support is what made me realize I needed to switch to a different company.

Everyday that they ignore their current customers is a day that they lose
those customers and yet another day that the other companies pull ahead.

Gablet, there are some major Web page, software and hardware updates to your system. Some between the version you have changes the way the archon reads the voltages produced by the probes. I believe i posted a clean version of august load here that should get you some more up to date Web pages then you can step your software up. And then the hardware. We are on version 41 now.

Captain's Log - Star Date 93438.25 (Things I've learned about my Archon today):
1. Switch Alarms are 1 for open, 0 for closed (not 100 for open as written in user guide).
2. You have to hit Send before you hit Test when testing your email settings for alarms.
3. ##########@mms.att.net works better than txt.att.net with smart phones. It doesn't split it into 2 texts. I actually knew that one from work.
4. Continue forever in timers is actually the old 'oscillate,' not 'do you want this cycle to go on forever.' At least that's what I think 'continue forever' means.

I'm gonna try to keep a log of these things I figure out, they might be helpful for a future update to the user's guide. I'm less techy than you guys, so I might have a better view from the general public's eye.

Ucdcrew ken developed some log pages. We should be able to be getting these implemented in a few revisions. I've been using it although not as much as I would like to. Maybe he can chime in here and shed some more light on them.
