Digital Aquatics Archon Owners Thread

You certainly need to think about your tank first. To be honest, my archon is still in "dry run " mode. On the counter still trying to prove itself

Mine still sits in the box after having it for months. still waiting for a phone call to try and get it running.

Just testing to be sure. Since the time fix that Ken helped me with and the last few updates, been good. I just want 30 days before I switch out my RKE.

mike

Mike, I think Ken and Lindsey moved a couple of items at a time over to the Archon. I chose to just remove the RKE head unit and just plugged the Archon in.

I moved a bit at a time until my tank was fully on the archon. I have basically been on my archon since probably mid jan. Recently I have has connectivity issue that may have been related to my router. I am testing some new major changes now on thst front. Spent all say installing and configuring ddwrt on my netgear router. Should have done it a long time ago.

Until I moved my sl2 over my rke backed up the archon. I can still kill it entirely with my rke.

Yes indeed. The failure of the Archon had a very detrimental effect on my tank and equipment. I removed the Archon yesterday. Since then things are back to running smoothly.

The biggest reason I had for buying the Archon was better access when I'm away. This issue is no better with the Archon than with the RKE. Very slow load times and failed pages/lost data.

I really feel like the system has been misrepresented and was not at all ready for sale. If I had been a beta tester and had experienced all of the problems that I have it would not be a problem but having spent $550 on a system which has so many problems and which offers very little advantages over the RKE seems very wrong.

While I am NOT trying to hide the fact you had issues with your system, you mentioned that the speed of the reactivity of the system was extremely slow when you were outside of your house, but did it perform properly inside your home? I agree that it is best for you to do what you need to for your tank. I just recently discovered that my router may have been a lot of my issues with the connectivity of my system as well. I don't have any explanation as to what or why. Good luck with getting your system back on track. I hope you were able to get a refund.

I am not trying to imply that any of the beta testers were attempting to misrepresent the system. Just that it is not a complete functioning controller and was sold as one by DA. I should mention however that I am not the only one experiencing problems. I am not going to go through and list them all again but they are very numerous.

In answer to your question the connection was much better when connected to my router. It only became slow and prone to errors when connecting from outside. I have a dropcam, an IP camera, reeflink, and numerous best products in my home. None of these have the problems that the Archon exhibits when connecting from outside.

I have been saying it all a long that anyone who buys now is really a beta tester. You are not the only one with problems, that is why I came here to ask about it. I know a few and there are also a few on the DA forums. This should not have been released yet period and probably why it has not hit retail yet. One person that is respected in this hobby has losses due to the Archon can trash the reputation of a system for a long time or forever.

I have had the Archon in my shopping cart a few times now and almost pulled the trigger. I am happy I didn't because I have corals that have been in my possession for 15 + years and corals from friends almost as long. This system should be pulled till it is 100 percent stable.. Not 95 or 98 but 100 percent and not just running on 2 or 3 people system.

I even purchased a cheap tablet for the Archon but there is no way I would risk it now.

Well I guess I am one of the 2 or 3 running my system w/ the Archon although I was no means a beta tester and am by no means tech savvy. I had a couple of hic ups when first programming but got it resolved. My issues not the Archon. I am running my kalk, alk and ca dose programs, my heater and of course skimmer and return with no issues whatsoever. I periodically check my dose amounts actual with what programmed and it is right on. Been up and running since Feb 1. No problems. How much you want for the tablet?

I would probably be close to this assessment except I was one of the unlucky ones that updated HW changes that "bricked my unit" and as well, had the time issue. Other than that, I have not had any lock ups or resets other than power interruptions. I do agree with SoloG that I do feel a little like one of the beta testers (but they don't respond to me directly, only inputs through the real beta testers).

I don't like the fact that it was release with less functionality than planned. I believe cloud based was one of the promises I read somewhere but I do see continual progress now.

My plan is to put the Archon on my 300 gallon system this weekend but I am going to start with pH monitor, Temp monitor and control, heater, skimmer control (float switch protected for overflow), water bug (wet detector), Zeovite tumbler, zeovite pump and RW20's and T5 lights.

My main return will stay on the RKE for a little while longer as well as CaRx control. I manually dose right now anyway.

Mike,

Don't forget to setup you defaults on the changes when you, over them over. I set my return default to on. My heaters are defaulted to on as I have their thermostats set 2 degrees above the Archon settings. I tested that it works by disconnecting the buss cable at the Archon. Waited a few seconds to make sure the defaults worked.

Since I upgraded my router I have had no issues with connectivity.

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. Today my time is ahead 1 hour. It changed sometime during last night.

Guess it won't go live this weekend :angryfire::headwally: arrrrrgggggg

This is it here. The basic function is time and it cant keep that and for those who did get theirs to work had to do work a rounds. Almost everything works off timers and it needs to atleast keep time.

I think at this point now I am just going to hold off and install the apex unit I have.

I really wanted the Archon but it just sounds too far from being ready and I need to at-least use my apex before it is worthless, it has been layiong around almost a year now.. You never know when they have a new system coming out either

How much you want for the tablet?

you can buy it here:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung...reen/4020174.p?id=1219613641667&skuId=4020174

You can get cheaper but this is a good tablet and not a bad tablet like some of the cheapos. Just wanted something reliable..

I am going to keep mine, I think I can get it to work with the Apex.

.

Been following this thread in hopes of upgrading my RKL to an Archon.

Think I'll save up for an Apex instead.

LACK OF PROPER CUSTOMER SUPPORT is DA's biggest downfall.

Seems like the just don't care.

I dont think it is they dont care.
With my lite have had no issue with support, they always got back to me.
I just think they are not ready for the launch of this product yet.
Probably why no retail yet. You imagine if it did the forums would be going ballistic.
I personally hope they get this worked out. I love my RK.
If this were beta that is fine. I am in no way paying to be a beta tester.

Luckily I have my RKE running both my 120 and 300 currently, so I have not been overly zealous in getting switched over. There is no doubt that this was released too early, but I also understand how it can happen (also understand the damage it can do to the customer basis). DA is walking a tight rope right now trying to get this out there and trying to hold back best I can tell.

I like my RKE and I like the potential of what the Archon will become ...... it is just frustrating to everyone from time to time. The old saying goes "if hindsight were 20/20" bet they would have waited :).

Anyway, I am going to stick with it as I believe they will get it together soon. BUT, they do need to answer their phones and emails in the mean time !!!!:fun5:
