Pass the mayport ferry, pass hugonot st park, go over a long bridge keep heading north you will see a kayak rental place on the left and you will go over a few small bridges this is when you know you are getting close. Keep an eye on the right of the road for a large area of gravel and you will probably see cars parked at this area. There is a gate to keep cars off the trail and that blk rock beach.. When are you going I might meet you. If you are coming from amelia or north pm me for other directions

What are you going to do with everything? Are anything locally suitable for a reef tank?

In a few weeks I am going to take everyone from the club who wants to go. I will bring sodas and grill some dogs out there too. We can make a day out of it and catch some redfish. I had posted another thread about this but it seems everyone lost interest in going

Hey Steve,
I don't think anyone lost interest, just waiting for an idea of when everyone wants to do it. I have never been there but it sounds very interesting. I might try to drive out there if I have some time next week just to check it out.

I marked on the satellite image below where I think blackrock beach is. Am I any where close?

Need to update my fishing license soon before going.

totally interested. Gotta get some new flies. Let me know the date. I'll be there. I have a small mesh net on a long pole that I use to catch glass shrimp in the creeks inthat area. Works alot better than a dip net. I'll bring that and a minnow trap to catch some small fish. Free feeders can't be beat.

Steve - I'll send you a pm when I plan to go. It might be on a weekday though.

Another really cool spot is about 1/2 mile south of marineland at low tide. Park at the Washington Oaks beachside parking lot and walk north on the beach. At low tide the rocks are exposed and tidal pools are formed trapping tons of critters including whelks, snails, blennies, anemones, urchins, crabs, etc. I don't collect anything from there but it is a great place to see critters in their natural environment. Must go at low tide. There is nothing to see at high tide. This is also a big sea turtle nesting ground so fish and wildlife patrol a lot on 4 wheelers during nesting season.

You can literally stand on the beach and look north and see marineland in the distance about 2 miles away. You have to go at the lowest tidal point as the tidal pools are only exposed for a short period of time. The last time I was there was I think the summer of 2004, so it has been a little while. The fishing is not great out there as all I have ever caught were some small croakers.

You can see the tops of the rocks breaking the waters surface. At low tide these rocks are almost completely exposed. You have to look close at the undersides of the rocks when the are exposed and you will see tons of life. I have seen rocks covered in keyhole limpets before out there.

But anyways... Not trying to hijack your thread, so when are you planning the trip to Blackrock Beach? Sometime in March or early April? The weather should be great by then.
