Disaster Strikes

I was at the lfs here on thursday and they were taking oll of the won brothers pro heats off the shelves saying they were recalled and offering cash back for the pos's. FYI. I couldn't find any info on line but anyone using one should replace them.

Just got home from work and the system seems stable. Just bare with no fish swimming around. God I miss the Chevron. Had him for 7 years and raised from 3/4" to about 7". My purple tang and yellow assessor will also be missed. They were so health and fat!!! A few of my corals are not doing to well. For those of you that know and have seen it, I may lose my Fiji tort that I have had for over 5 years now and recovered from the tank crash 2 1/2 years ago. Another tort colony is losing its flesh. The good news is I have a few clams and they seem fine so far. I guess they will be the test. Also the lone fish survivor is a bangai so I must assume there was some oxygen in the water still when I made it home.

To answer some questions. I pretty much have a total redundancy system. I use and AC2 to control most everything. My heaters are controlled with the AC2 as well as the heater controllers set to 82 incase the AC2 fails. I have a UPS to run a pump in the system just for this reason and I guess the battery does not hold a charge any longer. The system is mainly on 1 20amp circuit, with some of the lighting on another. The system can not entirely run on one 20 as it will pop the breaker.

I do have a new fish room being completed that has 3 20amp circuits for this very reason.

My lesson is I will NEVER buy any equipment made in CHINA!!!!! I always tell people to spend the extra on quality equipment as you get what you pay for. And this is what I get. I never thought a heater controller (not the heater element) which is separate would pop a GFCI.

Thanks for all the offers and concerns out there. Just hope that those who read this will make changes or test there equipment for this very reason. By the way, my heaters just started to come on this week.

Tony

My titanium heater popped on me this week as well, did the exact same thing, tripped my gfi and shut off my return pump, woke up the tank was 70 degrees and drained a couple inches..luckilly i have my tunzees running off a diffrent plug gfi..but a few acros and encrusting montis weren't to happy about the temp swings.. ..sorry to hear about your loss.. :( I'm also trying to find a better heater for now.. I was using a Finnex I've had 3-4 of them in diffrent tanks over the years and all have worked great except this 800w one, didn't even last 2months

Now the question is....What heaters to go with. I will most like go with he Ebo Jagers again. They just did not have the 500 which was perfect. I actually use 2 heaters incase of a failure. I am just ****ed that my UPS which has never really been used also failed. The battery which is 1.5 years old is pretty much dead. What a way to find out!!

I just emailed Won Brothers about this. I betf they will not do anything or even respond.

Tony,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Sometimes this hobby makes you wanna just climb into bed and never get up. I disconnected my GFCI just because I have had them pop for minor reasons. I know this is stupid too because my life is more important than the tanks, but I don't have room to run another circuit for redundancy. It's amazing that no matter how much we plan these redundant systems out, there is always something that can and will go wrong. Sorry that some folks always wanna criticize when they don't even know what they are talking about.
As to those who honor you Tony, they couldn't be more correct. You are one of the nicest and most generous hobbyiest I have met. I hope you hang in there and don't give up. I don't have much to offer except my time, so if you ever need help with your system sometime on a weekend let me know.
Best of luck, Chris

that sounds like the best bet tony,

i just broke/dropped my 25 year old ebo and was annoyed as it was a perfect workhorse was undeniably the most reliable heater i have ever owned.

when hooked up to a reliable temp controller...i know that you know because i know would decrease an episode like this happening to you again.

i am going to switch out my won's and get about 3 300w ebo's hooked to my temp controller!

post an update on how your corals are doing! again, i am here to lend a hand anytime you need it!
