dissaperaing firefish trick

k well I re arranged the tank a little and of course the fire fish is now gone. I would say he is "hiding", but it has been like 3 days now and the clownfish is acting like he did before the firefish. Also it is only a 30 gallon tank so there are not to many places he could hide lol. Uhhhggg. upset... I think the emerald ate him. maybe. Its the only thing I can think of?

My emerald has not bothered any of my fish in over 6 months. He is probably still hiding.

I bought a Flame Firefish Friday night. Put him in the tank and did not see him again untill late last night. I too was sure my emerald had snacked on him. I found his hiding place deep in my rock work. I was so sure he had died.

I think he is just a little scared of his tank mates right now. Hoping he does not hide all the time b/c he is one cool looking fish. Purple and orange with white and yellow body.

Does anyone one else have experience with these fish? will they eventually come out of hiding or is this normal behaviour?

well the only other fish is the clown and he is acting like he did b4 the firefish

My firefish once hid for 2 weeks after a fish addition to the tank. I thought for sure he was dead. I re-did some of the rock work and he never hid again.

hmm well it took me until now to FINALLY be happy with my rock work so I am afraid to move it. There is also a small goby missing too...

My Gody and Firefish live in a sand cave my Goby made under all the rock. I go days without seeing my Firefish at all and am always thinking he got trapped down in the save cave then he pops up again before vanishing daily.

My firefish is funny. I will see him wiggle out of his sand cave then vanish back into it at a dead run, with a puff of sand it looks like he is diving head first into the sand and vanishing in a puff of smoke... its a neat trick that always bothers me when I cannot find him for a few days. They move from cave to cave as the Goby looks for new stuff to munch on.

ya he doesnt come out for food if he is still alive... and he never hid he didnt even have a dart hole because there is no threat with just him and a tiny clown. He never ever hid b4... last time i redid the tank a little he hid for like a day but we are going on a week now.

poor guy. My 3 year old loves to scare mine and I am working at breaking her of that habit The Clowns just laugh at her of course but the Dart is like "OMG, I am out of here, seeya in a day or so!"

ya I'm really upset... I was going to get a gramma this week, but now I cant because of the whole territory thing, I wanted him to go in close to last. sucks alot I dont hva ethe money for a new one either, what with valentines day, and my girlfriend and I's two year anniversary comeing up this month. Maybe I'll frag some of my frags lol well if I can sell enough xenia I'll get a new one maybe but I would like to know why he dissappeared first, because if it was a crab or something I dont want this to happen again. the emerald seems peaceful though, just knocks stuff over alot...

Any chance you have a hitchhiker crab or mantis shrimp? Since the Firefish likes to sleep in the sand it would be easy for something to get him.

do you have an over flow my goby always got in it and i would find him in the filter sock in the sump they are good at that.

checked the sock, and he doesnt sleep in the sand and now I dont have a mantis I dont think.

1 do you have cat's or dog's in your house?
2 do you have egg crate on top of your tank?but I'll come back to the egg crate.
Fires are known jumpers I have a purple and had a red till recently. If startled they will jump and here comes the egg crate part
My red jumped out the tank through the egg crate and to the ground thous being picked up and chomped upon by my husky who later returned it to me as if she did me a favor.
Let me know if that gives you a direction to look?

ground was the first thing I checked, I do have dgs AND cats but they NEVER EVER are aloud in my room EVER. and I do have eggcrate. but thanks. My girlfriend is buying me a new one but I dont want to put it in until I find out WHY the other one died. I had a dream last night that he popped up though lol weird.

Hi,
I have a Firefish. I had to break down my tank and move it to the other room. He wouldn't come out for days. I had to go back in and move all the rock and place rock in buckets. I finally found him when I moved a rock! I turned the rock around to look at it. There was this huge hole in the rock and he hid in that and when I moved more rock in there the hole got blocked!! Poor little guy. I saved his butt for sure. But, then again I also caused his dilemma.

k thanks. I dont think that is the case, because the rocks are really open... but even if it was it has been a week now, and I think if it DID happen, its too late.
