Diver/tank care taker wanted

We went away for the Summer, came home last week, and found mine tank was deep in coraline algae.
David was called to active duty and would be away for 12-14 months. He trained a new guy (Todd) to care for mine tank before his departure.

Last week, after cleaning mine tank, Todd went surfing in Marina and he was attacked by a shark. He is in Hospital and will be there for awhile. He may be out of commission for a long time.

Are there any experienced divers, tank maintenance pro, in mine area that are willing to dive once a week?
I was told that there was a large aquarium maintenance company in Monterey but could not find any info about it, any one has the contact info for the company?
Thanks in advance for any helpful info

Tank Maintenance

I recommend Matt from ReefReady.net He has lots of experience taking care of very large tanks that require diving. His reefcentral name is Al G Blenny.

I like Matt and wished that he is closer. For long term, I think a local would have a better luck not have to deal with traffic.
I'll see what he says.
Thanks

I am a paramedic in Monterey and I just missed running the call on your friend Todd. There was another ambulance like 2 minutes closer than mine so they got the call..... Small world

I am not sure about maintenance in your area, I ran a maintenance company in San Jose about 5 years ago but have been out of the hobby/business fo a long time and your set up looks way over my head!

Good luck and PM me if you need any help, I would love to see that tank in person!

Thanks for your inputs and I will keep you in mind. I think there was this guy that was a worker at the Bay Aquarium one time and he now has a tank construction and maintenance company in Monterey. I was hoping to find some info of him.
The tank requirement is way too much for and out of town person.

What a small world, you could have been the one that saved Todd from bleeding to dead. Thanks God, and the EMT that he is doing well.
Thanks again

Wow. I had heard about the shark attack in Monterey on a surfer, and it even was a contributing factor in my deciding not to go diving there for the holiday weekend. (albeit a minor one.)
To read about it and have a name to put to the victim really brings it home. Let Todd know that even strangers are wishing him the best.

Have you checked with Tuberider ( Jeremy ) I know he does tank maintinance as well and might be around there,,

Check it out and become awestruck :)

http://www.exoticcoral.com/new_tank.htm

Not so good looking at this time. Tank is a little neglected and using an 40lb. diving oxygen tank to clean up the coraline algae has destroyed 1/4 of the reef(you think we would be so dumb). I got back in to the tank yesterday and try to rearranged but some of the rocks were way too big for me.
:(
May be I should take it down and get a smaller one?

woah thats one insane tank, it must be great to go diving when you feel like it. How many fishes are in there? and corals?

Hey, if you guys need help managing it, it'd be my honor to jump in there and take a day of maintenance! I have my PADI license, but am pretty new to diving. It'd probably be more of a show-and-tell for you...but I'm willing to pitch in.
PM me if interested.

Thanks, but don't have too many fish, mostly, anemonefish. I think Steve West's tank has more corals than mine tank.

Thanks for the offer and I shall keep you in mind.

The tank requires a full time, long term professional management. It has a complex circulation system that is not easily managed. This is the reason why I preferred a local pro that has experiences with Marine Biology and equipment maintenance. Scraping algae off windows under 6 feet of water pressure is a new experiences for some, but it is not much fun after a while.

Before or after his mishap?

If you don't take it down, get a longer hose for your regulator so you won't be taking the air tank in the water.
