Diver's Den & Live Aquaria

I watched the video tour of Diver's Den facility in Wisconsin on their website. Very cool, and looks clean, but how come there is no video tour of their Live Aquaria CA facility?

I know Live aquaria uses the wholesaler Quality Marine. This is where I may be off base but I think they ship direct from the wholesaler.

If you ever get to the Upper Midwest you should try to make it to one of the DFS open houses. It really is worth seeing, and a visit provides an unmatched boost of enthusiasm for the hobby. They treat their quests like gold, too.

You can combine the trip to Wisconsin with a visit to the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, too.:dance:

They use Quality Marine as there California location. Major difference between the fish from Diver's Den and the "normal" stuff off Live Aquaria.

Thank's.So ordering from Live Aquaria would be like ordering fish from Petco online I guess since their fish ships directly from wholesalers too..

Yes, basically, you'll need to be careful same as from anywhere else. They even recommend that you QT all items you receive from DD as well anyways.

A Live Aquaria order via Quality Marine of 5 royal grammas was my lesson learning order. (most of us have one) They came in with a disease, I dipped but did not QT and my entire tank was wiped out except for 1 clownfish. I QT now, heh.

Live Aquaria, like all the Drs. F&S companies, has the best customer service on the planet. They don't play games with their guarantee and contribute a lot to our hobby. I know of no company, in any field, that I'd rather do business with. The LA partner, General Marine, has an unparalleled reputation too. A big intangible: LA is, by far, the biggest "customer" (there's more to it than that) that GM has. GM takes very good care of DFS (LA) customers; but DFS does the customer service. They will bend over backwards to make everyone happy. Our forum is loaded with threads on online fish; LA's rep is incredible----in a very difficult business.

If there is a more electrifying spot in all of sports than Lambeau field at kick-off time: I have no idea where it is. Even opposing players, there for the first time, stop and look around when re-entering the field just before kickoff. I've had season tickets since I was a soph in H.S.; I just turned 65. You're right about DFS too; Marty Smith was my vet many years ago, until I left the cold.

I know I post on most DFS threads and am not trying to be a name dropper or get free stuff from them. Very simply, I have never heard of an unresolved issue with any of the DFS companies (I'm sure I will now). I've watched these guys grow from a little 3 Vet office in Minocqua, Wis. To a giant organization. Their business plan could be used as a model at any University in their MBA coureswork. They are big and profitable for the same reason Wal-Mart is; the old-fashioned idea that the customer is worth saving.

Quality marine have the best fish available but very pricey because the fish are acclimated properly and very healthy most of the time.

dd livestock is some of the highest quality avail to the hobbyist..their qt procedure is top-notch...the great thing about both la/dd is they share the same philosophy with regards to customer service..it is simply the best around and that is the best insurance a buyer can get...

Since I am about to stock my tank with fish I was planning on buying from what I thought was a single entity with stellar QT procedures, should I now restrict buying to Diver's Den? I have full QT myself, but I would like them to have gone through round one before I buy them.

I just got off the phone with Live Aquaria. I asked specifically about this as it was important to me and I want to post the response as closely as I got it.
The videos were shot in the Diver's Den area, but all facilities for Live Aquaria perform the exactly same procedures for QT, medication, and general care as Diver's Den. While I have no intention of putting anything in my system without QT and treating myself, I thought this information would be useful. I also posed the same question via email, when I get that response, I will post it as is.

The only down side to DD is it's "WYSIWYG". Lots of fish and pairs that you won't see often. Most of the fish I buy from DD are "impulse'' purchases and I always find room. Many of the fish you want may never appear on DD. FWIW; I've stocked about 100 gals of fish, twice. Almost all from LA. I can't remember a single fish that I wouldn't have selected myself. An occasional parasite or travel bump of course, but always resolved quickly with efficiency and old fashioned courtesy. I can't think of enough superlatives for the DFS group.

Next weekend I will be going up to the Divers Den open house. I am very excited to see the operation and hopefully pick up a few critters.

Quite right, I have discovered that it will take me some time to actually acquire all the fish I am looking for even not restricting the process to DD. Some varieties of fish are rarely available evidently and some are seasonal. I don't have any issues with this since I tend to do this hobby at a glacial pace any way. I will be acquiring all the fish first and stabilizing the system as each is added, prior to the first corals being added. Evidently, I like the path as much as the destination. I am just glad marine fish live a long time. :)

There is evidently a difference between what they tell you on the phone versus in email:

Live Aquaria Inquiry (#8740-344823636-2347)

Dear Keith,

Thank you for your email. Only items shipped from our Wisconsin facility, such as the Divers Den items and Certified Captive Grown corals, under-go the additional quarantine procedures. The remaining items sold on the website are quarantined, and monitored to be sure they are healthy and eating. However, the quarantine procedure is not as extensive.

If we can be of additional assistance, please contact our Internet Customer Service Department at 1-800-381-7179, via email or on our Live Help link. Live Help is available 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST seven days a week.

Sincerely,

Customer Support

the livestock on dd are handpicked by their expert staff and treated with a higher level of care ie the qt process...even though their qt process is rigorous they still stronglyhighly recommend that the buyer run their purchases thru additional qt...
the following is from KK... "DD are animals brought into our Rhinelander facility and quarantined and conditioned for a minimum of two weeks, fish listed on the site under the tabs are ones personally selected by an expert crew of folks with years of experience from one of the largest importers in the US. The fish could be several days from import or several weeks depending on the species. Regardless QT everything you bring into your house and we cannot control things we cant see that could become problematic down the road. Our web site along with ReefCentral has a ton of info on the subject matter."

I have ordered fish from both DD and LA and never had a problem that wasn't taken care of immediately by their customer service. The big advantage with DD is that it is WYSIWYG. You pay more but its great if you are looking for a "special" fish. If your looking for basic fish there is nothing wrong with LA. You can also combine DD and LA orders to go towards free shipping if you want.

PS: I QT no matter were the fish comes from.
