Divers den wrasses

It's been about 24 hours since acclimation. The yellow coris has not come out of the sand. My brother told me his melanurus stayed in the sand for 4 days when he first got it. Is this normal?

My guess is that is has come out when you weren't around, and then was bullied by the Scott's. Pure speculation, but I would be surprised if this was not the case. This assumes you do not have it isolated in an acclimation box.

Soooo, you don't trust your brother?...I would!

He is in acclimation box. I added sand to it and he went straight into sand.

I have some yellow coris and they've hidden in the sand on and off. Actually, now that I think about it, they seem to hide more often than my other wrasses.

Yes, they sleep in the sand. The fish will be very stressed without sand

If I wanted to prophylactically treat with tank transfer, would I skip the sand for 12 days, or add a new tupperware of sand with each transfer? What if I had to dig the fish out of the sand for the transfer, I imagine that's not good either. What's the best way to do this?

I wouldn't prophylactically treat personally. They are a fairly disease resistant group of fish. Just normal QT period, treat for intestinal worms, and monitor. You would not want to dig up a sleeping Wrasse from the sandbed.

Ah ok. Very common for them to hide the first day at least as already mentioned. Make sure you check the tank at night or early morning to make sure its internal clock is adjusted to your timezone.

12 days??? I would imagine he popped out when you weren't around to at least nip on some rocks

Upwards of 3 weeks is possible for burying wrasses that are stressed/ scared enough when added to a tank.
Being that the title of the thread is Divers Den Wrasses, they usually dont bury that long as they are held at their facilities for 2 weeks.
