Diving in Hawaii (Lots-o-Pics)

I don't think it's as big of a deal as you think to touch the turtles. It is illegal but every dive / snorkel trip I have been on in Hawaii the guide has brought a turtle out for everyone to see.

Very cool pictures. I probably wouldn't be able to hold back from touching the turtle or even a shark either if it was that close to me. Curiosity did kill the cat though...oh well, only live once!

i was thinking the same thing. Get caught doing that and it is a major fine. They are pretty strict about touching sea turtles in hawaii.

wow i used to accidently catch tons of small (20-30pound) sea turtles in the marinas when i was a kid no one slapped handcuffs on me thoughhowever one lady pitched a fit ubout me and my brother giving the manatees the waterhose to drink from and petting them haha (manatees have the worst breath in the world btw haha)

brought one out? How? I dove hawaii last week and was reminded that the sea turtle is federally protected so the fine would be heavy.

Nice pics...I realized once I got underwater that I should have bought at least a cheapo underwater camera.

Really cool pics. Thanks for sharing.
Just as a side note (not that I personally care) this is a HUGE no no.

So is holding an Octopus by one of it's arms! Reference one of the other photos. Disgracefull actions in this day and age. :crazy1:

Nice octopus, and thats funny that the turtle just sat there and let you pose behind him ;)

Turtles are actually very friendly. The more chill you are, the more chill they are. My wife and I were snorkeling in Maui last week and one surfaced not 5' from us to check us out. Maybe he noticed my gills and decided I wasn't a threat.

Exactly right. There were several turtles where we were diving. They all came right up to us, swimming within a foot or so of us. Awesome experience.

Disgraceful? I suppose the terms "Letter of the Law" and "Spirit of the Law" are lost on you...

Yes I think that petting wild animals is wrong, like any responsible diver would do. And pulling an Octopus from it's hole/lair and holding it up to the camera by it's arms is a disgrace, and that certainly looks like that's whats happening on the photo. :crazy1:
