Tried my hand at night photography tonight, unfortunately I had a dive buddy with mini suns that over exposed about 75% of my pictures and he scared away a bunch of fish. Here is what did come out.

These things are trippy and crawl around everywhere... but only at night to filter feed.

Stone Fish! Most venomous fish in the world. Love getting within a few inches of a animal that can potentially kill me in 4 seconds

Blazer, I checked out your site and I'm impressed. Any information up on your equipment and shooting setup? How do you blackout the backgrounds so well? Shooting in a tank setup for photography? What camera are you using?
Sorry about all the questions but I'm always interesting in upping my aquarium picture game, so to say.
Yeah I'm starting to figure out how to deal with color loss underwater, especially at depth. Its hard at times as sometimes I'm shooting at or close to 30 meters but I'm happy with the progress so far.
Going to Ras Muhammad National Park again tomorrow (same place I got the Sting ray and moray shots) and I'm looking forward to that. It will also be my last day of diving so I have high hopes. Wish me luck!

I'm really glad I saw this thread. That place is fantastic, and you took a number of great shots. Thank you so much for sharing. I'll have to look at them all over again to really appreciate all those corals and fish.

I use a Canon 30D and a mix of lenses; 17-55 F/2.8 IS, Canon ef-s 60mm F/2.8 macro, and Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro. I would love to take that equipment under water one of these days but the cases are insanely expensive for the DSLR's. I would probably go the Canon G9 route or something with an underwater case. But all of my shots were from normal tanks, nothing setup specifically for photography. They are all from my tank, friends tanks, public aquariums, or LFS's. I frequently either darken or blackout backgrounds in photoshop as I see fit. Thanks for the comments about my gallery.

And thanks for the info Blazer, I usually use a Nikon D80 but as you said the underwater housings are so damn expensive I decided to get a cheaper digi cam setup for this trip. I'm happy enough with the results for now.
Very nice pictures, I guess its time to buy photoshop again. I used to have a group licensed version but it ran out about 2 years ago and then I used my art departments version until last year. Time to bite the bullet and buy it I guess, the results are stunning.
I currently use aperture which gives you a lot of options but not close to the possibilities of photoshop. How do you like smug mug BTW?
