adjust the white balance before almost every picture underwater and then again in Aperture, then I tweak the pictures a bit more until I get something that's fairly accurate to the real thing, again in Aperture.

no worries... also, tweaking the contrast helps get rid of a lot of "haze" you might get in your pictures. I've had to do that with a number of my photos from this trip and its really make a big difference.

So I think this is my last round of pictures so its a big bunch. Maybe I'll get some while snorkeling tomorrow but I doubt I'll have time. Enjoy!

Rightfully named Anemone City
Monster Acro colony, by far the biggest I've seen. There were also 3 huge pieces that broke off this colony on each side that were also massive but I didn't get a picture unfortunately.
Look at the blades on this bad boy, kinda scary.

Bunch of glass fish in this chimney, looked awesome.
And I finally got a decent set of pictures of one of these guys, they have a nasty habit of jetting off just as your taking the picture

A Gorgonia forest, monster Gorgonias between 5 and 7 ft tall.
And I finally saw a octopus in the wild. My camera died right after this picture so I guess its my last shot.

Looks like you are definitely getting the knack of things rather quickly, too.
Only thing you need to do to bring back the color to your deeper shots is add a strobe or two to your setup, and when you think you're close enough, get closer! And of course, practice, practice, practice!
Also, just as you've already found out, shoot LOTS of pictures. It's not unusual to shoot a whole memory card worth of shots and only get a few keepers. But it looks like you are off to a great start! Congrats!

Wow, just found this link. Simply amazing!! The pics and videos really give you an idea how vast the life forms are. Just in the small area you were in, the quantity of fish and coral life is amazing. The size of the Acro colonies!! Your pictures also show just how adaptable sea life is. Corals encrusting on oil barrels and growing quite large in a decade. Thank you very much!!

Thanks Jam, I have a Inon z200 strobe that I only really found useful at night so far. Even though I can certainly see that a second one would help a lot of day time use. I'll keep at it even though I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to go diving again, hopefully soon enough. Thanks for the info and I'm glad you've enjoyed.
Hi returnofsid, No worries, happy to share. Those oil barrels were pretty cool. Apparently a few years ago a diver reached in because he figured they were empty due to the coral life on them. He ended up covered in oil and had to be flown to a hospital so that it could be removed, they warn everyone now even though it should go without saying that it would be a bad idea.
Downset, we went looking for a illusive giant school of hammerheads for a couple dives. Kind of scary diving in the open blue with plankton everywhere that really cuts down on your visibility... looking for a giant school of hammerheads, but alas, it was not meant to be. We actually didn't see any sharks which was surprising as last time I went diving (in Fiji) I saw Sharks on almost every dive and I expected the same in Sharm. It was whale shark season though and another guy I went diving with got a lucky shot of one right off the house reef one morning, so probably 100 yards off shore. Yes I am jealous.
