Weather permitting, I'm planning a one-day trip for the Saturday after the November meeting...
Leave Sacto at 6 am Sat morning
Arrive Monterey around 9 am

Leave Monterey around 3 pm
Arrive Sacto around 6 pm
It is pretty difficult to get into Monastery this time of year so plan on something easy like the breakwater, McAbee or lovers.
You all are invited. If any of you out of towners need a place to stay overnight I've got a couple of couches.
Also, I've got an extra set of gear (tank, regulator, octo, computer (Oceanic DataMax Pro Plus), BC, fins, mask snorkel) if anyone needs gear. I don't have extra weights or exposer protection.

On Saturday, we're doing a boat dive. I don't know exactly where yet. On Sunday, we're going to be doing some shore diving - probably breakwater because Sierra wants to see some sea lions or seals.
BTW - anyone can rent weights and exposure protection (wetsuit) from Dolphin Scuba. DUI drysuits can be rented at Sport Chalet for a very reasonable price.

I lived!!! I lived!!!!, it was horrible but I made it, visibility was down to about 2 or 3 feet while doing our skills, but by the end I actually felt comfortable down there with my thoughts and breathing. you guys are awesome, I really appreciate your suport.
you were completely correct about not being cold in the water but out of the water it was a completelly different story...I will be developing my film today and will post some pictures as soon as I can, here in the mean time here is a shot of Jess' step dad coming out of the water, here you can see how crowded it was down there
I took this one with my camera but all of the under water stuff was taken with a disposable 50' waterproof ISO 800 camera, I hope they come out

Talk about heavy equipment, just like this diver, I had a heck of a time getting back to my feet after being beat to hell by the surges and waves...I got a chance (before visibility went to hell to look around a big pile of live rock and check out all of the critters, decorator crabs, sea stars, little fish that looked almost like scooter blenies. it was like swimming inside of my reef (former) I recall spending nights stairing at my live rock wishing I could make myself small enough to swim around and be part of the reef.... well, I got my chance, I almost got emotional sat there stairing and forgot to keep an eye on my buddy, OOPs!

Alex - stop your whining. Sierra had to carry the same weight on her 75lb frame. :lol: If a little girly-girl can do it, so can you. Seriously though - it eventually gets easier. Now carrying my equipment doesn't seem as heavy as the first time I carried it at the lake.
BTW - the visibility of 2'-3' is most likely due to all the students kicking up silt. Visibility was pretty poor when we did our OW dives as well. But when we did our own dive, the visibility was MUCH better. Did you get a chance to explore the rock wall? I was pretty surprise when I say the "scooter blenny" like fish.
And last - CONGRATULATION! Now you think photography is expensive. Wait until you buy scuba gears. :lol:

Thanks minh, ill keep renting for a little while till I save up for my own gear and from what I saw, UW camera housings are ridiculously priced, so I'll stick with disposables

At least there aren't any Alex the turtle shots. Thats when the shore break flips you on your back while you're coming in. You're sitting in the shore break unable to turn over, flailing like a turtle. The breakwater is a great place to do it. Lots of witnesses.

I dove monastery yesterday. Vis was great (25') compared to everywhere else. MacAbee was 3'. I had to cut the dive a bit short because of a weighting problem. Monastery is not the place to mess around.
