DIY 10G Nano Log (Loads Of Pics)

Hey man, I know you just bought some new compacts, but you may get more light with som PC. A PC retro for a 10 gall should be very cheap. You can squeze in more lights and watts with the flat PC's. Just a thought.

redvipe - thank you very much

phyto - i have researched every possible way to get as many watts for as cheap as possible i have a very limited amount of money
i was orginally thinking 2 36 watt pcs with the existing 20 watts i have
but for the amount of money that i paid for the small compacts i get around the same wattage for a lot less
the pc retro for 1 36 watt runs about $40-$50
TWO of the compacts run about $20
much cheaper and more watts for a lot less
they are also selfballasted so i dont have to pay for a ballast
and i will make my own fixture for nothing
i already have the parts

thank you for your thought though

i know you already got the bulbs but...
you can get a 2x36 retro kit for $62 at ahsupply
plus those bulbs probably have a lot of restrike due to their shape so you prob can't compare watt for watt with pc's

i know that why i said "i know you already got the bulbs"
but like i said you are prob not getting the same light output per watt compared to pc lighting
i actualy just looked at the site again and they have a 2x13 watt 14.99 so maybe look into that. agian you will prob get better light from the flat pc oposed to the bulbs you are using.
Im just tryin' to help you out

Steven, I am also interested to know your experience with these bulbs. Is 20Watt the most they make in this style bulb? Do you know if anybody else has succeffully kept/grow corals with these bulbs? Please keep us posted when you get these bulbs.

thank you for the help
but i dont think you understand
i am getting more wattage for less
yes pc light MAY have more direct light in the tank but i am still getting more wattage than 32 or 26 watts

even if i had not bought the bulbs
i would have not purchased the pcs
they are more expensive
and i get MORE wattage for LESS money

they come in 10 watt and i think they just came out with the 20 watt
50/50 and 6700k
i have known 1 other person to have these bulbs on the thread
he has to to have grown acros
he also said that they are putting then in a lot of stock nanos
i have had 2 10 watts
but so far i have had no experience with corals yet
the 10 watt are about 5 inches long
the 20 watt are 9 inches long

they are fairly bright
and are self ballasted and screw into almost any lamp socket
so if you have a 120 cord
you can run up to 60 watts
and thats what i plan on doing
4 bulbs 60 watts

well
i recieved my lights awhile ago and i have made a fixture to accomadate them
i have not finished the fixture yet
i havent had anytime

here are some pictures of my progress
