Hi, I could not find the thread about what brands of materials people use for the diy calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium. I read on bulkreefsupply.com to not use the new Dow products. Would someone please let me know what brand is suitable for purity for an sps tank, or maybe know the brand bulkreefsupply uses? Thank you very much.

For the baking soda, any food grade brand is likely fine. I got mine from the supermarket. For magnesium, Mag Flake from the Dead Sea Works company is fine. The new Dow might not be acceptable, but some of the Tetra products are thought to be okay. I still have my supply of the old Dow product.

I'm getting ready to use Excel Ice Melt bought from Sam's Club here in Colorado. The bucket says Pure Calcium Chloride Pellets which tells me there isn't anything else in it. Arm 'n Hammer and Epson Salts for the other two. I've also heard not to use the new Dowflake.

Now I'm gonna tag on to your thread hoping Randy Holmes-Farley will let me (us) know if the recipe can be concentrated more???

The alkalinity part can't be made more concentrated, or not much more, with common home equipment.
