DIY 5 gallon Skimmer

I was reading around today came across this thread and it has me itching to give this a try my only question would be how would you match up the correct pump with your system as far as gph? anyone else wanting to try this here is the thread

Probably compare the volume of the mixing chamber with a skimmer of comparable volume and same method of injection and use that pump as a guide.

why not a 5 gallon pail with removable top? this would make disassembly for cleaning even easier. easy for fitting bulk heads as well. one could even drill and tap the plasitic pail and fit a piece of curved plexiglass also drilled and tapped for a viewing area. you would have to sacrifice another pail to make a frame to secure to two together if you wanted the two surfaces to be flush. the bolts would be made of nylon. nylon bolts available in any hardware store, toilets and such. completely feasable. i may attempt it myself if i ever get any time. a scarcity 4 me. good luck with your skimmer.

Interesting Idea as well cleaning this type of skimmer would be pretty easy to clean shut it off pour in some vinagar shake and rinse I spoke with one guy that made one said he used it on a 120 said it worked very well a guy in the thread said he used one to skim his 200 gallon SPS reef and it done a fantastic job if this is correct could cut down build costs greatly
