diy auto top off

Anyone able to get in touch with Bill at floatswitches.net? He doesn't respond to my emails ... maybe he's on vacation.

i tried to email hi ma while ago to buy the whole setup and he said he was on vacation. but that was a few weeks ago and i didnt think he said he was going to be gone that long. plus he answered my email while on vacation

I have noticed on RC that bunches of people will tell you to use a relay, but no one will tell you how to wire it up.:)

That's the one I am going to be using. Not my design, but good none the less.

There is an easier way, with just a 12V transformer, the float switches, and a relay, which I can draw up later today, but that's just the one I am going to be using.

that would be great if you could do that. that diagram is like the setup i bought. i am making this one for a friend.

I dont quite understand the diagram. are the 2 black boxes where the pump/powerhead would get connected? and is their any way I can just use an extension cord plug in place of a 12v transformer?

The top black box comes from your wall. That is the 110V supply for the pump. The other black box is the socket that your pump gets connected to.

And no, you NEED the 12V transformer. Or some other sort of 12V DC powersupply - I'm using an old computer power supply to run my fans in the hood, my moonlights, to power my temp probe, and in the future a pH probe. The whole idea of using a relay is to use a lower voltage so we arent running 110V AC near our tanks and to help increase the life and longevity of the floatswitch.
