DIY Eheim 1260 brush impeller

yo spazz

do u know if S Dart will come out with a 220-230 AC pump?
i came across somewhere that they mention that Mag drive is not suitale for your dart style NW mod, might overheat cause by friction. are the inlets/outlets too small for the application or is it the issues with cavitation.

here's some shot of the skimmer running on a AM multi SL body.
this is when the unit just got hooked up N running.

this is a close up of it awhile later.

this is a shot 5hrs later, i did put in a piece of cut fish to help with the skimming:D

this unit is running on the HnS style brush. anyway it seems like this brush on the eheim might be to big for the AM multi SL body, i could see quite a bit of turbulance near the riser, and might hinder the skimming efficency. i don't have a bigger skimmer body for the test. i'll go get a air flow meter to check the amount of air being drawn into the skimmer.

I hate to be a drag, but honestly, I think the OR2700 that came with my multi SL does a better job than that....

Rich, I dont think he is claiming that the multi SL is working well. Its obvious there is too much pump for such a small chamber. Too much turbulance for sure.

so sorry if i was not clear there. those photo were taken when i was just using a 20mm male fitting to attach onto the intakes of the pumps, they were way to big and i didn't construct the air tubings well. the later test were using the original eheim barb fittings, which were made better and are smaller , so could pull in more air/water.

anyway, i don't think the original pumps that came with the multi's are OR2700.

they are the PH2500 for us here in singapore. the OR are bigger pumps just like the eheim 1260. the PH are actually the powerhead range, they are way smaller, something like the Aquabee's.

i've got news that Aquamedic's are coming out with a new skimmer (none recirculation, more like the multi SL ) that is size between the Multi SL and the shorty's. it will be running on a OR3500 (thats OR3700 for US ) and is an insump model or hangon like the multi's .;)

It dependson when you bought it .

Some have OR 2700s, some have Rio 1700s.

I have to add something here...
I have played around with different pump for my G2 from Sedra 3500, Genx-2400, and OC2700. None of them comes close to the performance of the mod Eheim pump tho. However, my DIY Eheim needlewheel is diff. I am using the needlewheel disc from sedra 5000 hooking up to the Eheim stock impeller. The air intake for the Eheim is around 9mL and up measured with the Dwyer Air Meter. It pulls out more junk in two days than all my other pumps in a week. Believe me, the Eheim is just an awesome pump...

Oh.. I'm using the Eheim 1260.

Doh...sorry for my stupidity. Should have read the title better. Thanks.

MDboyz

do have a pic to show how the construction is for the Mod u mention? is it simple to mod the Nw or is it a complex DIY. i'm sure with the info u can input, will help lots of reefers do some modifying to improve their eheim 1260 into a NW pump.

Sorry guys... I was so busy last week.
Here are some pictures...

Wow, that needlewheel looks real nice! :D

How did you make it? Are those needle pins made of acrylic rods?

Tony,

That NW is actually a Sedra NW on an eheim 1260 pump.

MDBoyz, how exactly did you attach the NW onto the Eheim impeller?

Peace,
John H.

I cut down the blade on the stock Eheim impeller to the the bottom. With the Sedra NW, I cut down the bottom part to leave off only the needle disc. Then I use the drill bit which is smaller than the stock Eheim impeller head a little bit. So I use it to open the center hole of the Sedra NW. Here is the fun part. Let the Eheim stands up and put the Sedra NW on top, and a nut with bigger hole on top.. then slowly.. and gentle hammer it down into the Eheim impeller. Do it slowly and gentle or you will break the impeller.

Anyway, because the center hole on the Sedra NW is smaller... so when you hammer it on the Eheim impeller, it fits real tight....

great Mod :)
i wonder if i can get those sedra NW impellars in Singapore. they have smaller diameter Brush rods which i think should be more effective in chopping up more bubbles at a single past.

anyway, i'll try to find smaller diameter rods to put onto the diy brush. the smaller the more i can squeeze in. the next diy brush with smaller rods will try to fit into the Eheim 1262. it would be quite powerful for small skimmers. instead of haveing 2-3 Aquamedic OR/PH, we can just have 1 pump for recirculation. the Eheim 1262 should out perform the OR3700.

by the way, are those sedra NW brushes O3 safe?
