DIY Full Spectrum Light Fixture Color Combination

The eye may think it seeing white on a neutral back ground but in reality you have two peaks one at Cyan and another at RED. If you now light up a color chart or color wheel with this light you will se that the colors from yellow green, to yellow oreange will be very dark because there is no light at their wave lenghts to reflect back at you.

This is often seen with some lighting systems when doing photography. The eye is more sensative to low light levels than a camera whe there is strong light at another frequency. So the dominant colors of the light wash out other colors in the picture. In this case the picture would be a mixture of red and cyan like a cartoon with the other areas black.

Good info..
Targeting specific wavelengths is what were ultimately trying to accomplish foot both growth/color.

Here is new color combination and difference is 3:1 color ratio (Blue:White) and I have added warm white as well...

Hi All,
being a Nubee, does anyone know of a post where there is detailed discussion of how to build an LED and change lights? I am very interested in building one of these but this discussion is way over my head except for the color spectrum (XXnm) needs of the corals. I get the concept but do not know how the "bulbs" are changed or if there is a "board" that can be made/modified to custom the fixture.
Thanks
Mike

There are so many led fixture build threads on RC and even if you google it you will get plenty of results and ideas. Its all up to you how complicated you want your fixture to be I want to use solderless led's so that if any led's go back i can swap it out easily...

As mentioned there are loads of builds out on RC. I myself have built quite a few now 5 for myself and 7 for other people. Besides that I have walked several through building there own.

My idea is to keep it as simple as possible initialy and then if you want to make make changes to do so as you have the time and money to add the extra bells a whistles. It is very easy to do with the modern drivers out there today.

If you want send me a private and I'll walk you though through your build. You can do a 120 gallon build for $250 or if you want to get fancy spend $500 for a 30 gallon build.

I have placed an order for solderless leds. Thanks to Rapidled for 20% discount for blackfriday and placed an order for 7 Meanwell LDD drivers, Coralux board for LDD drivers..
