diy hang on the back skimmer advice

I was wondering if I could construct any skimmer (venturi, bekett, ect) from an in the sump plan and run it as a hotb by slight modification? The main reason being that I have no sump and little money. :rollface:

i took a in sump skimmer and used it w/o a sump. but i diden't have any room behind the tank either so here is what i did.
