If kalk degrades if exposed to air, is this DIY plan still a good idea?

Does anyone have any other easy alternatives?

Limewater is good for one week when exposed to air. I use a five gallon bucket, aqualifter pump and timer. The timer is set to run for ten minutes every four hours. This matches evap pretty closely and adjustments are made manually.
