Group Buy

Group Buy

About 4-5 months ago "The Fishman" coordinated a large group buy involving nearly 40 people. We did this buy via Cutter and various other vendors. This was a slow as well as a learning process for all,(esp. when dealing with cutter). However, Fishman did all the leg work and ended up in saving us nearly $500 in costs. Dispite everything going on in his life his really pulled through for all of us. He went far beyond what he was ment to do and showed an infinite amount of patience for the "noobs" like me :). On behalf of all of us Fishman, i`d like to say thankyou :). We love our hobby. If it was not for people like you, we would not be able to realize the full potential of owning a Reef Aquairum.

Is this bin of RB's good? From what I can tell, this is the best bin out there, but I might be reading it wrong and just make sure that I am reading it right.

Also, is the general consensus still about 60/40 RB/CW or is going 50/50 or are more people running NW or WW now?

Thanks

Yep D4 16 is the wtg for RB XPE...as for the mixing of Different whites, that`s a matter of personal pref mostly. If your going to use both CW and WW, you may want to use more CW than WW.

Just bought my 60 RB LEDs, cost me a total of 214 dollars.

I recently mixed in some NWs with my CWs and was surprised how much yellow just a few LEDs added. I bought a few extra of each and did a few trial runs. I personally like to look when NWs are mixed in but it took some trial and error before I settled on the final ratio.

What was your final ratio? How did you do your layout?

thanks

Couldn't agree more. A little bit of them goes a really loooong way. It looks like a dingy yellow smear on my dog's blankets, that I always do a double-take on, realizing it's the NWs. But without them the light would not have the rich color.

Thanks for that info. That is truck-load of drivers! I'm happy to see they're PFC drivers. I'll be following your build with interest.

You bet but because I wanted finer lighting control using my aquatronica it was pretty reasonable value. Approx cost is $180 per light and better with the strength of the Aussie dollar ( each light has 48 leds) This gives me the option to control groups of ten LEDs and therefore the ability to create a good sunrise and sunset and moonlighting plus other effects such as lighting intensity for different zones of the tank.

I am having a hard time finding some information on LED's and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction?

I am trying to find out, first and foremost, how to figure out how much out put a DIY LED system will have/ A way to determine how many are needed for a tank of X size? I know there is a level of personal preference involved, etc. but a general guide or rule and reasoning behind it must exist I would think?

Sorry if I have just :deadhorse:

Go to my home page and find the link to the summary of this thread. I think it will answer your question and a few more. If not I (or someone) will try again.

Click my name select to visit my home page and go to the last post. Once you figure it out it will be easy to find :)
Or click here

LOL! I found your homepage just fine, I was just saying I was doing the google search wrong in my attempt to find information. Thank you though! Now I know about how many LED's I need, and then some! Very informative couple posts you have there.

hi ,
i am very interested in doing a led setup for my 180 sps tank. can anyone give me an idea on money involved and what stuff i need to look at buying. its a std 180 tank. i am tired of having 175.00 month electric bills and am ready for a change. please let me know thanks.

Not sure exactly what the cost will be but I did learn during my build that researching in depth can save a lot of money. Keep reading the DIY LED posts until you can't read any more and then read some more. Read everything from Kcress and TheFishMan65. Then start the design.

my budget will be under a grand. i then will sell all my MH to recoop some of the cost. i have about 700 in them plus the vho. then i want to do my 40 breeder that is sps only with a 150 hqi and vho. doing awesome
