diy magnet frag mounts

rogergolf66

im an addict lol
I have run out of room in the tank and not wanting to upgrade yet here is what I did and what I used to make them. I hope all will be good with the tank.

I used this epoxy to seal the magnets.

I mixed it good then rolled the magnets in the epoxy to cover completely.

I let them dry for 3 days and move them in the still drying puddle of epoxy every day to cover any area that may not be covered well yet

Then before adding to tank I cover with this epoxy also then use ic gell to magnet than agaon on top of the epoxy to get frag to stick.

This was the finished product.

What do u think I have about 13 coral to do mag mounts.

Roger

put some bounty towel or viva brand under the dry magnet side or else the mag will scratch your glass

Looks great! I might end up doing that! If you wanted to get fancy instead of paper towel you could use a felt pad :spin1:

Cool idea though! I hope I get to see pictures as the frag grows!

Question is... Where did you get your maginets?? I have been debating this same idea but instead of an epoxy just a couple coats of liquid rubber....

I was thinking Plasti-Dip too. You can control the thickness of it by how you dip it and the number of dips. I love this idea. Gonna try it out to get some green star polyps to start growing on my overflow.

Just a note for those like me who are too lazy to coat the magnets, you can get plastic coated magnets on ebay pretty cheap...

Roger I have seen your tank. Has this worked out for you? Noticed it is an old post. I was thing of this so I can cover overflow with caps of all colors.

Yes this is an old thread from my old tank. yes it did work well and if I ran outta room again I may do the same thing again. I may have a few of these laying around if you want to try a couple

Thanks, if there a shop by us that sell magnets? If one has an old impeller would that work? I don't think they rust. If it they would never use it on power heads or pumps. I have a few old maxi jet impellers I could use.
