DIY MaxiJet Stream (Pic Intense)

Just a quick stupid question, but where does the carbon fiber rod go. I didnt quite udnerstand where the aluminum rod went on page 1.

You would be replacing the steel rod that holds the impeller assembly with the carbon fiber rod. Since this mod will make the impeller assembly much longer than its stock design, you cannot use the stock steel rod for this.

Well I started the mod but I the prop doesnt seem to want to turn around the rod, also I think the hobby store lied and told me the aluminum rod was stainless steel. THis rod is easily breakable, light metal, and not magnetic. I have a small piece in some salt water now to see if it will corode. Is there someone who has an extra piece for the shaft from the pump through the prop and for the spin stop. I have 3/32 rods so something like that or a little smallter would be great. A couple of inches in a regular envelope would be great. Let me know.

Thanks,

OKAY...I give up...I have tried this thing 4 times...burned out four powerheads....! I am done ! I can shoot the nads off a drunk moth at 1000 meters but I can't get this thing to work....! SO; who is willing to make me one of these things so I can just buy it from them and retain my sanity ???

uh-oh-5-oh,

[welcome]

Hopefully someone will help you out so you can focus on your target acquisition. ;)

As someone already stated, stainless steel isn't magnetic. It often is more brittle in lower grades. Also, whether or not it will corrode in saltwater isn't a great test. Even 440 stainless will rust in saltwater. It just takes longer. If it were titanium, thats another story. HTH.

Try to PM "PHreef" - I spoke with him not too long ago and he offered to make one for me if I got too frustrated.... :-)

Why not just use carbon fiber rod instead It's strong and won't rust nor corrode in saltwater. Probably cheaper than titanium too.

dhnguyen: I have no idea how much my remaining sanity is worth
but I guess so long as I don't get bent over on the
price....! I mean if I want that; I'll just go buy a Tunze.

krouth: Thanks for the advice....I'll give it a try !! ! !

I realized that stainless steel wasn't magnetic after I posted that. It is very britle, it is also a tube. None of the hoby shops around me have any carbon fiber rods, which is why i asked what i asked.

UH_OH_5_OH -

Man I feel your pain. I've been working on this for the last 3 days.

If i may ask, what do you think were the causes of your frustrations? What caused you to burnout the powerheads?

The problem I'm experiencing is that I can't get the flow to meet my expectations. My mod doesn't produce the flow like the avi files I watched on page 1 of this thread. I want that flow. I need that flow. I will get that flow. My montra for the last three days. :)

Call me crazy but can anyone give me a reason why I shouldn't just cut the fins off the old impeller (leaving it attached) and glue the boat prop onto the end of it. After all then you wouldn't need a stopper or a new shaft or anything but a guard and to turn the PH on its side. Am I right?

I have just been skimming (reading) lately so I hope I didn't missunderstand.....
Someone was looking for carbon rods.....
My friends, that is an easy one. My other hobby uses them and graphite rods exclusively. Do a search for 'Kites' - there you will find what you are looking for. You may have to call the store since replacement rods for kites are usually listed by name, not size. Almost all decent kite stores have graphite or carbon fiber on hand.

Someone has mounted it on the side and not use a longer shaft but I can't find the thread here.
He also posted on the local group so here is that link.

That's not really the same mod there. All he did in that was to widened the output of the MJ but still used the original impeller. It would definitely make the flow wider and more dispursed but I don't think it will create more flow per se. Maybe I'm wrong but I think you will need a propeller to push more flow rather than just using the imepeller.

Here's my newer (cleaner) version using MJ 400
