DIY MaxiJet Stream (Pic Intense)

I have to agree to the previous posts regarding the Maxi-Jet mod kits from Matt/Lutz493. The fit/finish, ease of installation and water movement is great!

Got it working!!! wow, what a difference I attached pictures and check out the ripples at the surface, good thing I'm upgrading to a 125 soon because everything is blowing around on my 55!! When it goes in reverse it's insane! clams are kind of upset :) I'll be getting another MJ 1200 and another kit once I get the 125 going!! Great job Lutz!

nice looking mod Lutz. Your housing looks a bit smaller (in diameter) than mine though and I wonder if the flow might be better if the housing was a bit larger.

Also what are the diameter and pitch of the propellers?

Cristhiam - Looks like you have quite a xenia infestation going on :)

The mod may look smaller because it does not use the thicker store bought PVC

I do not think that having a larger housing will be very effective. In simple terms, if you were to put an electric egg beater in a large size bowl it is going to mix the contents slower then if you were to put the egg beater in a smaller bowl with the same amount of contents.

Unless you move up to a larger size prop I'm not sure you going to see drastic changes in water flow. Then I would have to question if the motors are going to even utilize the larger impellor.

The limits of these pumps can only be pushed so far. Believe me, we have been trying many different solutions to increasing the performance of this mod.

I'm satisfied with the mods and excited to finish the motorized unit that will allow the mods to move left to right, which the bracket is already made to support.

I think adding something along these lines will be more effective then the suttle changes that can be made to the general design we are all using.

Hello -

I had been developing a better prop then the one you have seen/read about on the boards. I just finished my prototype today and its looking like this thing is going to produce close to 1800 gph as opposed to the 1200 gph the old props were producing.

I won't have this new prop ready to be mailed till the end of the week. Do you mind waiting the extra couple days for the better prop?

I didn't want to mail your mod to you to only have to resend you this better prop when I finished it. I'm really excited about the flow rates coming out of this thing. It is surpassing a Tunze 6060 in flow.

Let me know..

- Matt

Yeah I can wait. Send me the new design, that is if you think it will be as strong/last as long as the other...more flow rate is go0d, but not if it is a sacrifice of durability.

Probably been asked before, but hey this is a monsterous thread!: If 1800 GPH were too much, are these mods interchangeable with different maxis? Could I stick it on an MJ 900 instead of a 1200?

Not gonna make all that much of a difference between a MJ1200 and MJ900. Not until you downgrade to a MJ600 or MJ400 would you see any noticeable difference in flow.

Infact why use the MJ1200 at all? It's not all that efficient when compared to a MJ900 and you won't get any better flow out of a MJ1200 unless you were to use the larger sized propellers (1.75" and above)

I too have one of lutz's mods and I will vouch for it. I put two into a 40 that used to have a somewhat deep sandbed. The craftsman ship on these is unbelievable. Thanks lutz for sharing your work, and thanks to bulldozr and dhnguyen for coming up the groundwork for this mod.

Matt
