DIY Multi-Media reactor

So a little update:

I fixed a leak and that is going well and I added a prime/bleed valve to the output line of the Eheim recirc pump. That also has worked out very well. No more face full of water action for me! :D

I also got to build the RowaPhos basket and pics are below.

The top plate comes out and I have floss at both top and bottom of this container with the RowaPhos in between.

that looks awesome, i would like to see a update

and a super thank you goes out for posting the ground probe links, i just realized that i was doing something very very very bad.

Floss/carbon basket is built and installed. The reactor continues to work well and my tank is currently stabilized at 8.8 dkH and 390 ppm Ca.

I am using a cordless drill with an allen socket to deal with the screws and it is really quite quick and easy.

Still need to make the Ca media baskets.

Janarowe,

Nice Build !

I was under the impression that rowa or the like cannot be placed in a lower PH, it will also dissolve re-releasing what its pulled. ?

I had thought an iron based phospate media was the only solution.

Please lemme know how its working for you...i also am looking into a multi-media reactor.

Thanks, Marc.

Marc,

I had not heard that there was a problem with Rowa and low pH. Several tanks on RC have Rowa polishers on their effluent and I built my reactor based on that info. I don't see anything about that in the instructions either. Do you have any links to articles supporting that?

Rowa is a ferric hydroxide which I assume means it is iron based.
