DIY Overflow Cover

Hello, I was just wondering if I made an overflow cover out of some acrylic and spray painted it black could the spray paint have any negative effects to my tank?

In tank overflow cover? Only issue I could really see would be the gills of the overflow getting crusted over with coraline over time...and if they are not cleaned, the water which would typically go over the top, wouldn't have anywhere to go. Is this a sound issue, or a visual item you're looking to overcome?

As for the paint itself...I'm not sure it would actually last. Salt has a way of getting into that, and may chip it off over time. If it's a must, why not just buy black acrylic? I can't see a few dollars being worth the piece of mind on this one...

I used Krylon Fusion For Plastic for my DIY PVC overflow and its been running with no ill effects for ages. its never peeled, flaked or anything. actually after the first few months it got covered in coraline so now i cant even see the paint, it started out green, now its purple, good times
