Does this blue piece between the upper rails need to be exactly in the middle or could I use two pieces 1/3 and 2/3 the way across instead. A piece in the middle will not work for me as my tank has a center overflow and the plumbing will be in the way. Thanks.

Heres is what I did...
I just went and bought the wood and boorowed a friends compund slider miter saw and cut them each a different length to achieve a level top and then i used 1/4 inch pink foam from home depot to get rid of any spaces between tank and top. Trying to sand led to too many issues.

Hello Rocket and all. Nice thread and I've read up. Thanks to all contributing.

I am getting a 96x30x18 acylic frag tank, about 200 gal. Should I build 2 48" stands of your design and join the 2 or make 1 large stand? I also would like plenty of room underneath for a 100 gal rubbermaid stock tank with skimmers, fuge and so on. The stand doesn't need to be pretty as it will be in my basement out of sight, so doors and such won't be needed. I was planning on using plywood corner braces all the way around (triangle pieces)-sort of like gusset plates.

Any advice. Of coarse I will post pics for everyone. Thanks in advance.

Ok so Im trying to plan a stand for a 24"x24" tank. The problem I am havingis that my sump is 20"x20". How can I build a stand that will hold both of these and still look good? Any ideas are welcome. Thanks Chris
 
If you look at the calculator to see how they make a different stand you can use see how the stands are made you just can not use the cut list to make yours.
 
I wouldn't do that for a couple reasons:
1) Material - It's Particple board (which becomes a sponge once wet, which WILL happen), and
2) Compression Load - there's no integrity to particle board.

kgross sent you on the right path. You can also use 1" (actual 3/4") Hardwoods, like poplar, oak, birch & maple, if you don't ant to use Plywood.
 
Cool thanks The stand with the plywood is just what i need. It will allow plenty of room. Should there be a cross brace on the top anywhere?

Take the stand calc that I posted use a 24x 12 inch stand. Then when you start cutting pieces make the side panels 22 1/2 inches long rather than 10 1/2 inches long (part C), make the stand top F 24 x24 rather than 12x24 as listed Part E the floor frame cross braces would be 21 inches long rather than 9, and the stand floor part G would need to be 22 1/2 by 22 1/2 to fit your 24x24 tank.

The Toe kick would not be a problem, other than it would look strange on a tank stand, it would also make it a little more willing to tip to the front if the floor was not solid.

Hey thanks Kim!!! The measurements are really what I was wondering about. Give me a vehicle to work on and I can fix it. Give me wood to work with and Ill make a fire.
