Thanks RocketEngineer
It will be on carpet over concrete floors, what kind of shims do you use wood or paper?

I really don't know so don't laugh:(

Once again appreciate all your help and info.

oh, just a fyi....home depot and lowes will cut wood for you if you supply measurements. they cut my wood free, no tools needed except drill, hammer, and sander....and of course a level or two

here are some other pics
I put some insulation in to help minimize sound. We also sealed in all cracks etc. so that the carpet under the thing won't get wet

Did you use 2"x3" supports and 1x4's instead of 2x4''s?

yes, i calculated the weight of my tank + sump + rock, sand, water, and then added a few pounds for various equipment and such. the boards that I used will allow for space inside the cabinet and still be stable enough to hold the weight securely. i also have plywood for the front, sides and back. i stood on top of this thing and moved around and it didn't budge...and I am no little girl. In addition to the wood, I used some corner supports and braces that are similar to what they use in trusses. I don't feel like it will twist or buckle under the tank.

It was my first attempt of making a full (decent looking) cabinet. I have made bookshelves and such before but this was my original thought....what do you think...should i have went with 2x4's?

nice! I made my stand a bit taller too. I don't like to stoop to see my stuff....I am short so it didn't have to be too tall :) I was told that I should have made the bottom to sit directly on the floor. I noticed yours is a bit raised too. I was told it was to help limit noise, so i filled in the under cavity on the side of the sump with "great stuff" to help muffle some of the vibration. Also, I filled the seams, cracks and such with "great stuff" and silicone to prevent the wood on wood noise. I hope it helps

Here my stand for my new AGA 75 gal using Rockets design

beautiful!!! man, I was pretty proud of mine...that puts my diy to shame!! but hey, i still don't think it is bad for a chick that hasn't done anything like that before! lol

I have a question for you guys. I am wanting to upgrade to a 125 gallon 60"wide tank. The stand will be beside my fireplace. The hearth on the fireplace is marble and is taking up some of the space I need for the tank. Using the design RocketEngineer came up with could I make my stand 56" wide and allow the top to extend over the stand 2 inches on each side to hold a 60" top? I know this does't sound good but looking at my factory AllGlass stand that is how it is made. What do you think?

Could someone offer me an answer on my question 2 post up about the plywood being slightly larger than the stand?

Personally I wouldn't risk this setup, since the corners are taking the majority of the weight. But that's just my opinion.

Started building our stand for a 180 yesterday from these plans. The top frame is done, looking good so far, about to work on the rest of it now. Thanks RE for the layout.

all that work we did on my stand for the 90 gallon and I get a sweet deal on a sump/skimmer that won't fit in it(this this is a monster). So, I have decided to sell the stand I just built and start a new one with some extras to provide for the extra space I need. I will be posting it on the for sale feeds as soon as I get some pictures of the completed project. It is a wickedly solid stand.
