DIY Swirler Stein

I have finally got one of the Koralias mounted. I built a swivel from 7/8 inch acrylic rod. This allows me to pivot the pump up and down. The angle piece it 1/4 acrylic sheet, cut with a band saw and bent using the heat from a torch. To join it all, from the pipe down is a 1/2 inch coupler, ground to accept the acrylic rod, it was glued into place. Then 1/4 nylon screws served for the pivot, acrylic rod to 1/4 inch angle mount and pump to 1/4 angle. All screws are threaded into the acrylic or back of the Koralia. Pics show it all.
I have routed the electrical cord through the pipe, it will join the motor and will leave the box as one cord.

now if somebody can design one that goes side-to-side & up-&-down, that would be the ultimate in cool

come to think of it, i have a car fan that does just that.....wonder if i could somehow adapt it for this use
 
I have them wired up and ready to mount. I have tested them in a bucket holding the upper housing and they seem to be working just fine. The pumps seem to be putting quite a bit of leverage on the box. It will be interesting how well they hold up.

$11 plus free shipping sounds like a bargain. Wish I'd known about this before. I recently bought a low-RPM gear motor for a Halloween toy and spent like $50.

Thanks Andy. It's not my idea though...I just resurrected it.

The motors you linked are 21volts. I can't tell if they are AC or DC. I would bet AC. I would imagine that you could reduce the voltage but I can't give any advice on how to do so.
 
I have a canopy that I will be attaching the Swirl Stein to. I will be cutting a piece of 1/4 acrylic that will attach to the side of the Swirl and will be a couple of inches longer. I then will attach the acrylic to the canopy. Nothing special, I will show pics tonight.
 
I have them up and running. I had a little problem with one of the units. It was nothing that a little adjustment to the tie rod to fix it. The swivel was stalling at the end of the stroke. All is good now. I will leave them running over night and see how things are going.
To mount them I cut a piece of 1/4 acrylic. I also cut a piece of 3/4 plywood, it was used to space the pumps away from the glass for space for a mag cleaner. I drilled 2 holes in the side of the grey box and attached the acrylic with #8 machine screws. I then screwed the 3/4 plywood spacers into the canopy, it had to be counter sunk for the screws that went through the acrylic and box, the head of those screws needed a small pocket. I then screwed the acrylic and box to the spacer. Pretty darn simple.
The random flow is awesome.

i got to thinking....how could one do this w/ a spraybar???? (or spraybars...one on each side of the tank)
